Job summary

PowerFlex, an EDF Renewables company, is seeking an experienced Field Technician to provide on-site diagnostics, maintenance, and troubleshooting for EVSE, solar PV, and BESS equipment in the San Diego area.

You will collaborate with internal teams and clients to deliver best-in-class service, uphold safety standards, and ensure equipment reliability across a growing portfolio of energy assets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent field.
• 5+ years electrical engineering experience.
• 2+ years experience with EVSE.
• Experience with solar PV, BESS, or DERs preferred.
• Hands-on hardware experience in lab or professional environment.
• Experience with Salesforce Service Cloud and MS Office.
• Valid Driver's License with annual MVR checks.

Scope of Job

As a single full-service provider, PowerFlex customizes clean technology solutions to help clients achieve their energy and sustainability goals. Through the comprehensive PowerFlex X platform, PowerFlex leverages patented smart software to control, monitor, and optimize a client's distributed energy resources to reduce cost and maximize return on investment. The Field Technician will be responsible for providing onsite technical support for PowerFlex's electric vehicle charging equipment, solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, and battery energy storage systems (BESS). This role will work with internal teams as well as directly with our clients to provide best-in-class customer service. The Field Technician will provide hands‑on maintenance and troubleshooting support across PowerFlex's full portfolio of energy assets, including EVSE, solar PV, and BESS equipment. THIS POSTING IS FOR A CURRENT VACANCY AND THE EMPLOYER INTENDS TO FILL THIS POSITION BY 10/31/26.

Location

This role is responsible for supporting the San Diego County Area and needs to be based locally.

Responsibilities

• Lead on-site diagnostics, repair, and preventative maintenance of EVSE hardware, solar PV systems, and BESS equipment, including advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis of recurring or complex field issues.
• Act as the field point of contact for escalated service needs, coordinating directly with internal support teams and external stakeholders to ensure timely resolution.
• Develop and implement best practices for field configuration, installation, and maintenance procedures, including solar and BESS systems; proactively identify site-specific risks or improvements.
• Serve as onsite technical expert as well as use diagnostic tools, test equipment, and system data to isolate electrical, mechanical, firmware, network, and communications faults.
• Maintain accurate and detailed service documentation in ticketing systems; provide insights from field data to inform operational and product enhancements.
• Own field inventory tracking and replenishment for your region, ensuring parts availability for scheduled and emergency maintenance.
• Support commissioning new charging sites by performing hardware verification, power‑up procedures, and end-to-end testing with cross‑functional teams.
• Perform routine maintenance inverter checks, battery health assessments, string testing, and monitoring system configuration.
• Interface with clients and site hosts professionally in the field, representing PowerFlex's commitment to quality, safety, and customer satisfaction.
• Follow all applicable OSHA, NFPA, NEC, manufacturer, and site‑specific safety requirements while performing energized work, lockout/tagout, arc‑flash assessments, and other field activities.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in engineering or equivalent field
• 5+ years of electrical engineering experience
• 2+ years of experience working with EVSE
• Experience with solar PV systems, BESS, or other distributed energy resources (DERs) preferred.
• Hands‑on experience working with hardware in a laboratory or professional environment

• Experience working with Salesforce Service Cloud, Microsoft Office Suite
• Must have a valid Driver's License. Subject to annual motor vehicle record checks and must participate in annual defensive driving training.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

• Knowledge of electronics and three‑phase circuits
• Familiarity with solar inverters, battery management systems (BMS), and energy storage technologies preferred.
• Basic familiarity with command‑line interface
• Good understanding of networking concepts (Ethernet, WiFi, Cellular, IP addresses) is a plus.
• Comfort with basic office expectations, such as use of email, messaging, calendars and Teams meetings
• Self‑starter - takes initiative to drive tasks to completion
• A desire to provide the best possible service for our customers and stakeholders
• Calm under pressure and can effectively prioritize competing tasks

Compensation

The base pay range for this position is $30 - $42 hourly. The total compensation for this position will include commission. This position is eligible for PowerFlex's comprehensive Health and Welfare plans including but not limited to medical, dental, vision, 401(k) retirement plan and paid time off. PowerFlex's compensation packages carefully consider a candidate's qualifications, experiences, and education in relation to the position.

Physical Requirements

• Remaining in a seated position. Long hours on computer keyboard. Prolonged periods of standing walking and/or driving.
• Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs and work in confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment.
• Must be able to position one‑self to work in confined spaces such as trenches, pits, manholes, attics and tunnels.
• Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move 50 pounds occasionally.
• Must be able to respond quickly to sounds.
• Must be able to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
• Must be able to work in cold environments and on concrete floors.
• Must be able to traverse irregular and steep terrain.

Working Conditions

Approximately 90% of the time is spent traveling and providing support on‑site at EVSE, solar, and BESS installations. 10% is spent in an office environment - preparing equipment, interacting with clients via phone/email, internal escalation of service tickets, participating in recurring Asset Management/Customer Success team meetings utilizing computers (frequent use of MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher and Adobe etc.), telephones, and general office equipment.
