Job summary

Consolidated Utility District Of Rutherford County is seeking a Field Service Technician to perform water meter service, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, disconnects, and reconnects in the field. The role requires a high school diploma or GED, a valid Tennessee driver’s license, and the ability to obtain a Grade II water distribution certificate within 18 months.

On‑call duties and on-site work are expected.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Valid Tennessee Driver’s License and safe driving record.
• Ability to obtain State of Tennessee Water Distribution System Operator Grade II Certificate of Competency within 18 months is desired.
• Knowledge of Rutherford County is helpful.

Responsibilities

• Change out meters, check valves, and/or meter bottoms as needed.
• Perform meter investigation, troubleshooting, and repair.
• Assist with service orders and investigation orders.
• Change out meter yokes occasionally.
• Test water meters in the field or on a test bench.
• Perform disconnects and reconnects.
• May float/cross-train in other departments.
• Perform emergency duty or on‑call responsibilities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

Support the efficient operation of the Field Services Department by performing water meter service, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, disconnects and reconnects, and related field service activities. Assist with service and investigation orders, respond to customer service needs in a courteous and professional manner, and support emergency and on‑call operations as required. Comply with all policies outlined in the Employee Handbook.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Requirements

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must meet residential policy requirements, including a 45‑minute response time to Consolidated Utility District’s main office, and maintain that residency status as a condition of employment.
• Scheduled on‑call duty is required.
• Response to callouts/emergencies is required.

KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to obtain State of Tennessee Water Distribution System Operator Grade II Certificate of Competency within 18 months is desired.
• Valid Tennessee Driver’s License and safe driving record.
• Good knowledge of Rutherford County is helpful.

SKILLS REQUIRED
