Job summary

Komline, a pioneer in advanced separation technologies, seeks an on-site Field Service Engineer to install, start up, repair, and service complex machinery at customer sites across the Michigan region.

You will modify PLC programs, perform preventive maintenance, train operators, read electrical schematics, and support service managers with reports and technical guidance. This role requires 3–5 years in automation maintenance and an AA in Electronics or Manufacturing Technology.

Qualifications

  • AA degree in Electronic or Manufacturing Technology; practical experience may substitute for education.
  • 3–5 years of maintenance/repair experience in an automation environment (prefer filtration equipment).
  • Understanding of process control: 4–20 mA analog loops and VFDs.
  • Experience with pumps and piping systems is desirable.
  • Able to modify control logics and add rungs/sub-routines in the field as required by customer.
  • Able to read pneumatic and hydraulic drawings.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and schematics; use multimeters, oscilloscopes, and related instrumentation for diagnostics.

Responsibilities

  • Perform onsite repairs and test repaired items for compliance with specs.
  • Conduct quality control tests on repaired equipment as needed.

  • Direct and oversee customer trades or contractors during installation or repair work.
  • Run product trials at customer sites and provide technical advice.

This Opportunity
Onsite at Customer - In The Field
  • Installation and start-up of new machines and complete lines.
  • PLC program modification (mostly PC based Softlogic- Allen Bradley and occasionally Siemens).
  • Onsite repairs for machine breakdowns. Test repaired items to ensure compliance with technical specifications.
  • Perform quality control tests on repaired equipment, as needed.
  • Training on machine operation for Operators and Maintenance Technicians.
  • Direct and oversee customer skilled trades or independent contractors performing installation or repair work.
  • Perform any trials with products on customer sites.
  • Technical advice to the customer.
  • Establish and implement technical instruction programs for customers.
Preventive Maintenance contracts
  • Visit worksites on a regular basis to do preventive maintenance on instrumentation, controls, breakers, motors, drives (electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic), circuit boards, PLC's, and other associated equipment according to the manufacturers' recommended schedules and whenever emergencies arise. During these calls, inspect equipment for faults and completeness. Test equipment to determine operational condition. Troubleshoot to determine location and extent of equipment faults. Repair equipment by adjusting, aligning, repairing, or replacing defective components.
  • Inspection and upgrades of existing customer machines.
  • Dismantling of machines for refurbishment or moving.
  • Keep the Service Manager informed on progress or problems on site, with written reports and checking in before leaving the site.
Plant/Office
  • Office work (reports, spare parts lists, customer advice).
  • Detailed visit reports for customers and service manager.
  • Prepare, review, and consolidate technical and administrative service reports and requests.
  • Advise customers on the phone regarding troubleshooting, spare parts...
  • Produce general drawings for design solutions.
  • Help electrical engineering (update drawings, debug programs...).
  • Help in the shop, especially during the debug and test phase.
  • Help in-house service (phone support, fill test, internal training...).
Qualifications
  • A.A. degree in Electronic or Manufacturing Technology. However, practical experience may be substituted for years of education. Should be able to apply principles and theories of electronics, electrical circuitry, engineering and mathematics.
  • 3 - 5 years' experience in maintenance and repair in an automation environment (prefer filtration equipment)
  • Understanding of process control: analog control utilizing 4 to 20 milliamp loops and VFD's.
  • Experience with pumps and piping systems is desired.
  • Able to modify the control logics and add rungs/sub-routines in the field as required by customer.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Able to read and understand pneumatic and hydraulic drawings
  • Able to troubleshoot and work independently and have the ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and mechanical drawings. Able to use multimeters, oscilloscopes, deadweight testers, pneumatic calibrators, electric-motor diagnostic equipment, and other associated instrumentation to perform diagnostics and troubleshooting of controls equipment.
