Job summary

Brown Machine Group is seeking a Field Service Technician for our Knoxville, TN site to handle start-up, debugging, installation, troubleshooting, repair, and training on all equipment. The role involves traveling to customer sites up to 50% and working with cross-trained product lines to ensure uptime and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Accomplishes start-up and installation of equipment at customer plants.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on machines at customer sites.
  • Provides on-site training for customers on equipment operation.
  • Repairs or adjusts machines and verifies performance meets specs.
  • Assists other BMG staff during service calls and site visits.
  • Suggests improvements based on on-site observations.

About this Opportunity

BMGhas an exciting opportunity for a Field Service Technicianat our Knoxville TN site. The Field Service Technician is responsible for the start-up, debug, installation, troubleshoot, repair and training on all equipment in the customer’s plant and at the manufacturing site when required. We provide cross training on all our product lines to create the skills and flexibility required to service our customers. The ideal candidate has 3 years or more experience including installation, set-up, maintenance, trouble shooting, and repair of capital equipment.

Wage

includes hourly base pay with an increased pay scale when traveling or visiting customer sites.

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A minimum of an Associate’s degree, 2 year trade school certification, or equivalent experience. Prefer 3 years’ experience in industrial controls.
  • Implement changes, troubleshoot and understands robotics programming (preferred skill)
  • Able to understand and edit programmable logic controller PLC and Servo Systems.
  • Willingness to travel frequently, at least 50% of the time.
  • Must possess a valid passport and other documents required for travel and have and maintain a current driver’s license with no restrictions.
  • A minimum requirement for this position is the ability to work legally in the United States on a permanent basis. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position.

KEYDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Accomplishes or assists in the installation and start-up of equipment at customer plants as assigned.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on machines at customer plants as assigned.
  • Performs training on machines at customer plants as assigned.
  • Repairs or adjusts machines at customer plant as assigned. Checks repair work or adjustments by observing machines in operation. Ascertains that repaired or adjusted equipment is operating in accordance with customer requirements before leaving the customer’s plant.
  • Assists other BMG employees in activities at customer plants as required in conjunction with service calls.
  • Suggests modifications or changes in existing equipment on the basis of observations made in the course of performing service work.
  • Reviews all spare parts on hand at customer plants and advises customer what spare parts are needed to bring the parts inventory up to prescribed levels.
  • May perform repair, adjustment, and/or assembly work on experimental machines located at manufacturing facility as assigned.
  • Prepares service and expense reports and field change service notices for all service calls made.
  • Informs Engineering and sales of any known issues or opportunities discovered while on site.
  • Publicizes and promotes the sale of BMG products whenever the opportunity for such activity occurs.
ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Lift, push, and pull up 35 to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.
  • Walk for extended periods of time.
  • May work in seated or standing positions for prolonged periods of time, perform sustained manual activities at low to moderate levels of exertion.
  • Must be able to access and navigate within each department at the organization’s facilities (i.e. climb stairs, ladders, etc.)
