Stellar Energy provides custom power augmentation and energy plant solutions for power generation, utilities, LNG, data centers, biopharma, and other markets. Our innovative solutions include turbine inlet air chilling, inlet air conditioning (heating and cooling), evaporative cooling, direct contact air chilling, thermal energy storage, district cooling, and central utility plants. With over 20 years of experience, we operate globally with offices in the US, Asia, and MENA regions.

Summary Objective

This role involves being in the field at client project sites, typically 3 out of 4 weeks a month. The Field Service Technician provides electrical, mechanical, and automation support for chilled water systems, including troubleshooting, commissioning, and testing. As a customer-facing role, it aims to drive customer satisfaction, retention, and profitability in a field environment without direct supervision.

Essential Functions
  • Read and interpret engineered drawings (P&IDs, loop sheets, wiring schematics, electrical one-lines, PLC ladder logic, etc.)
  • Operate standard service tools and electrical testing equipment (multimeters, voltmeters, megohmmeters, etc.)
  • Perform PLC I/O checkout procedures and troubleshoot issues
  • Calibrate, troubleshoot, and monitor VFDs and instrumentation (0-10V/4-20mA)
  • Perform moderately complex chilled water system start-ups
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on system components (pumps, motors, cooling towers, instrumentation, electrical equipment, PLCs)
  • Set up and program VFD parameters
  • Provide customer training post-commissioning
  • Complete daily Field Service Reports and submit to management
  • Prepare for ISO 9001 and other audits

Work Environment

Primarily in construction sites and industrial plants, requiring compliance with safety policies. Work may be outdoors, noisy, hot or cold, and in dirty environments. PPE such as earplugs, hardhats, steel-toe boots, and safety glasses are required.

Physical Demands

Ability to work in construction environments, climb ladders, move equipment up to 50 pounds, and work in confined spaces. Must have good vision, hearing, and mobility to operate equipment, travel, and work on uneven surfaces.

Expected Hours of Work & Travel

Overtime may be required, including weekends and holidays. Travel is approximately 75-90% nationwide.

Required Education & Experience
  • Associate degree or equivalent in a technical field
  • 5+ years in mechanical, control, or electrical field services
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of programming languages like Ladder Logic, Structured Text, etc.
  • OSHA-30 certification
  • Experience with Rockwell Automation, ABB, VFD Drives, PLCs, and HMIs
  • Experience with motors, control systems, and motor control centers (up to 4160V, 3-phase)
  • Experience calibrating and troubleshooting industrial instrumentation
Preferred Education & Experience
  • Vocational training in industrial instrumentation
  • Certifications such as Rockwell Automation, ISA, CCST
  • Experience with PLC programming (Allen Bradley, Siemens)
  • Previous startup and commissioning experience
  • Microsoft certifications for relevant products
Work Authorization

Must be authorized to work in the US, possess a current passport, valid driver’s license, and be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential.
