Job description

As a manufacturer of gear pumps, pelletizing, and filtration systems, and pulverizers we offer top-grade equipment for your demanding requirements – not only for polymer applications but also for the chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, and food industries.

The Field Service Technician provides the highest quality on and off-site technical support for the Maag family of equipment to include: plastic pelletizing systems, polymer pump and filtration systems. Working independently but supported by others, the incumbent is the technical representative to our customers for all product maintenance, installation, and repair issues.

Position Description – Tasks, Responsibilities, Competencies

  • Independently travels nationally and internationally as Maag/Gala’s primary technical representative to the customer.
  • Interacts with customers on a daily basis to provide solutions to issues.
  • Conducts annual follow up calls to all Maag/Gala customers to check up on the customer and Maag machinery
  • Participates in customer visits to provide support for equipment installation, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair activities. Visit responsibilities include logistical planning, coordination with interagency contacts and the customer, execution of the trip and reporting activities and expenses.
  • Provides training to customers at Maag/Gala’s facility and at the customer’s location.
  • Represents the company and collects customer feedback to facilitate continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Conducts technical discussions regarding machinery repairs, upgrades, and selection to assist customers with a solution to their needs or problems.
  • Collaborates with engineering, manufacturing, parts and equipment sales to develop customer focused solutions.

Work Environment

  • Work in this position is both in an office and a factory floor environment, either locally or at a customer site. While performing the duties of this job in a factory setting, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud and PPE may be required.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing. The employee must be able to lift items up to 50 pounds.
  • The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Occasional prolonged sitting during international commercial air travel.

Job Specification

Education Mandatory

  • High School diploma or equivalent education (additional technical skills a plus)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • A valid US Driver’s License is required to book rental cars for travel

Desirable

  • Technical training in electrical systems (single-phase, 3-phase or low voltage systems)
  • Technical training on logic circuits, electric motors, gears / mechanical devices
  • Multiple language skills

Professional Experience

Desirable

  • Experience in a field service role
  • Experience using measuring / test equipment including micrometers and multi-meters
  • Writing progress and expense report
  • Global travel experience
  • Experience in plastics processing or rotational molding highly desirable
