Job summary

A 100% employee-owned company, we provide dedicated sales, rentals, parts, and service support for customers in the tree care, landscaping, wood waste, organic recycling, underground construction, and mining industries.

POSITION FUNCTION:

The Field Service Technician is responsible for high quality and effective repair of equipment in a field setting. Provides excellent customer service, maintains professionalism and ensures detailed records are accurate and up to date.

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Service, repair, assemble and recondition equipment as assigned
• Diagnose basic problems and determine what repairs are required with assistance as needed
• Research, identify, and order correct parts required to perform repairs using electronic parts manuals
• Perform any inspections as required
• Maintain complete and detailed working records
• Maintain and care for all field truck tools, machines and equipment
• Suggest any additional repairs needed to Service Manager/Field lead
• Help maintain cleanliness, neatness and safety of your work area/field truck
• Update Service Admin via Modern, spreadsheet and verbal communication of equipment repair status
• Communicate to customers when machine repairs are completed
• Accountable for following all DOT, OSHA, and established company rules, regulations and guidelines
• Maintain an accurate Electronic Driver’s Log (EDL)
• Travel as required
• Stay current with the latest trends and developments within your field and industry by continuing your education with Factory Service Schools, VGP Service Schools, Individual Development Plans, etc.
• Follow all safety rules and regulations while performing work assignments and adhere to all policies and procedures as specified in Employee Handbook and set by Vermeer Great Plains
• Other duties as assigned

Measure of success determined by established company guidelines, including but not limited to repairs completed, ability to complete repairs, time required to complete repairs, feedback from customers, ability to take guidance and direction from Manager professionally, and execute upon such feedback.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Must be committed to and take a pro-active approach to our Company Mission, Vision and Values
• Strong PC proficiency with MS Windows and MS Office Suite, CDK a plus
• Demonstrated experience with hydraulic systems, electrical, electronics, pneumatics, diagnosing and calibration
• Owns and maintains personal tools and toolbox required
• Ability to safely operate industrial equipment; including forklift, overhead hoist, etc.
• Mechanical/technical aptitude with excellent problem-ing skills and attention to detail
• Good working knowledge of equipment operations and mechanical functions
• Demonstrated safe work habits
• High degree of customer service to both internal and external customers
• Strong ability to adapt to the people and environment around them - customers, suppliers, co-workers and manufacturer's employees
• Ability to conduct yourself in a professional, ethical and reliable manner with minimal supervision
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in order to communicate professionally, respectfully and honestly at all times
• Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle, feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk and hear 100% of the time
• Ability to be exposed to extreme weather elements, including wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold and extreme heat regularly
• Ability to withstand moderate to high noise level in working environment regularly
• Regular attendance is required
• Must be able to work overtime and/or weekends as needed
• Bilingual a plus

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Associate degree in Applied Science, Diesel Mechanics, Diesel Technology, or related field, and 1 year of technician experience in heavy equipment or industrial equipment industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience required
• Vermeer Technician Certification within 6 months of start date
• Background check, pre-employment drug testing and clean driving record required
• Valid unrestricted Driver's License required and the ability to maintain a valid unrestricted DL throughout employment; Commercial Driver's License (CDL) may be required for certain service trucks to perform the duties of a Field Technician. VGP will review motor vehicle records annually for all employees for whom driving a motor vehicle is an essential job function
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid DOT medical card
