The role mixes shop and field work, emphasizing high-quality service, safety, and customer satisfaction. Reporting to the Service Manager, you will use hydraulic and electrical troubleshooting skills and manufacturer diagnostics to ensure reliable equipment and support long-term customer success.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Vocational technical training or 2+ years of heavy equipment service experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical repairs on heavy equipment.
  • Proficiency using diagnostic equipment and troubleshooting systems.
  • Ability to obtain a Class B CDL within 60 days if required by location.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and field assignments as business needs require.
  • Ability to complete pre-employment screenings.

Responsibilities

  • Perform machine repair and maintenance services in the shop and at customer locations.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical system issues using schematics, diagnostic software, and testing equipment.
  • Perform inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, and component replacements.
  • Conduct pre-start inspections and startup checks to ensure equipment readiness.
  • Participate in equipment testing, commissioning, and operational verification.
  • Operate and maintain electric and air-powered tools, equipment, and diagnostic devices.
  • Operate heavy equipment safely and effectively as required for testing and repair activities.
  • Meet or exceed company quality standards through visual and mechanical inspections.
  • Complete work orders, repair tickets, and service documentation accurately and thoroughly.
  • Communicate repairs performed, equipment conditions, and recommended follow-up actions to customers in a professional manner.
  • Maintain professional, respectful relationships with customers and coworkers.
  • Provide responsive field and shop support while meeting customer expectations and deadlines.
  • Assist team members and contribute to overall departmental success.

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Service Manager, the Service Technician performs inspection, diagnosis, repair, maintenance, testing, and commissioning of heavy construction equipment, lift trucks, road construction equipment, aggregate machinery, and quarry/mining equipment. This position works both in the shop and in the field and is responsible for providing high‑quality service while maintaining safe work practices and delivering excellent customer support. The Service Technician utilizes hydraulic and electrical troubleshooting skills, manufacturer diagnostic tools, and technical expertise to ensure equipment reliability and customer satisfaction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Service Operations & Equipment Repair
  • Perform machine repair and maintenance services in the shop and at customer locations.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical system issues using schematics, diagnostic software, and testing equipment.
  • Perform inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, and component replacements.
  • Conduct pre‑start inspections and startup checks to ensure equipment readiness.
  • Participate in equipment testing, commissioning, and operational verification.
  • Operate and maintain electric and air‑powered tools, equipment, and diagnostic devices.

Service Administration & Customer Support
  • Complete work orders, repair tickets, and service documentation accurately and thoroughly.

  • Provide responsive field and shop support while meeting customer expectations and deadlines.

Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.
  • Promote safe work practices and contribute to a safe work environment for employees and customers.
  • Handle, store, and dispose of oils, antifreeze, transmission fluids, cleaning solvents, and other materials in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in required safety training and comply with DOT and company requirements.
  • Maintain eligibility for participation in safety-sensitive and random drug testing programs where applicable
QualificationsREQUIRED
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Vocational technical training or a minimum of two years of relevant heavy equipment service experience.
  • Minimum two years of experience performing hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical repairs on heavy equipment.
  • Proficiency using diagnostic equipment and troubleshooting systems.
  • Possess personal mechanic tools appropriate for the position.
  • Ability to obtain a Class B CDL within 60 days of employment, if required by location.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and field assignments as business needs require.
  • Ability to successfully complete required pre‑employment screenings.
PREFERRED
  • Experience servicing Volvo, Roadtec, BOMAG, Etnyre, and similar heavy equipment product lines.
  • Manufacturer certifications and advanced technical training.
  • Prior field service experience supporting customer equipment at jobsites.

  • Visual ability to inspect equipment, review documentation, and operate diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to perform duties in a safety‑sensitive environment

Work is performed in both shop and field environments and may be exposed to heat, cold, dust, noise, vibration, fumes, and changing weather conditions. Employees are required to follow all company safety procedures, utilize required PPE, and maintain compliance with applicable safety regulations and standards.
