ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following is not intended to cover each aspect of the position, as the scope and duties of a given position may change or be temporarily altered based on the business needs. The basic requirement of every position is to perform all tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

  • Works orders for turn on, turn off, reconnect, change in service, and other meter-related service orders in the field.
  • Distributes late notices, collects non-pay accounts, and collects returned checks.
  • Checks for unauthorized usage and assists law enforcement by filing complaints and providing vital information necessary for successful prosecution.
  • Attends court proceedings when necessary.
  • Replaces commercial and residential consumer meter seals.
  • Communicates with consumers in the field concerning the collection of past-due statements and unauthorized usage.
  • Replaces broken or stopped commercial and residential consumer meters.
  • Reports any safety hazards or faulty equipment found in the field.
  • Verifies questionable meter readings and assists the CIS department in resolving meter discrepancies.
  • Reads meters and verifies and documents related service and billing information for system audits and other purposes.
  • Acts as courier when needed for business-related duties.
  • Will be available for after-hours calls to reconnect meters.
  • Maintain confidentially of all consumer information.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid Florida Driver's license

Other Skills and Abilities
  • Must be able to work independently without direct supervision
  • Overtime may be required.
  • Keyboarding skills required. Must be able to troubleshoot minor problems in the field.
  • Ability to enter and retrieve data via computer with speed and accuracy.
  • Internet and email experience required.
  • Ability to handle irate consumers in the field with sensitivity and good judgment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works outdoors in all weather conditions with great physical exertion. The employee may encounter slippery surfaces, vehicular traffic, unfriendly pets, hostile members, and physical barriers such as uneven terrain or fences. The employee must constantly walk to visually inspect and read meters. The employee must travel by vehicle to customers' locations, often entering, exiting, and backing up the vehicle many times a day. Twisting, kneeling, climbing, balancing, and bending are regularly required. Communication via two-way radio and/or telephone is required daily. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
