The Role

As we grow, QuidelOrtho is seeking a Field Service Engineer for the Western DC area, covering Leesburg, VA, Winchester, VA, and Frederick, MD. This is a field-based position with benefits including a company car, gas card, cell phone, and laptop, with vehicle maintenance covered by QuidelOrtho. The role involves servicing customers across the Western DC territory.

The Responsibilities

• Install, operate, maintain, repair, and modify electromechanical equipment, preferably in the field. Troubleshoot technical issues and system problems.
• Identify technical solutions aligned with product and customer specifications; advise company or customer representatives accordingly.
• Analyze product implementations, modifications, and enhancements based on customer needs.
• Assess customer needs and recommend suitable solutions per specifications.
• Conduct technical training and product briefings for customers, vendors, and company staff. Act as the local on-site representative. Manage territory responsibilities including preventive maintenance, upgrades, and software/hardware support. Provide service support in hospital/clinic labs.
• Manage parts inventory, complete online training, and handle administrative expenses.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

The Individual

Requirements include:

• Associate's degree in Electronics or Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent military/field service experience.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in electromechanical equipment installation, operation, maintenance, and repair.
• Self-motivated team player with good interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Technical knowledge in electro-mechanical, chemistry, computer, or related disciplines.
• Ability to manage workload effectively within deadlines.
• Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Extended hours and travel (up to 75%) including overnight stays, especially during training in Rochester, NY.
• This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Preferred: Experience in healthcare or medical devices.

Key Working Relationships

Internal: Field Service team, Sales team, Technical Support, and other organizational units.

External: Customers such as laboratory managers and supervisors.

The Work Environment

Primarily outside field work with occasional office time, requiring discipline and organization skills. Must maintain a valid driver’s license and a suitable vehicle for travel.

The Physical Demands

Includes visual, manual, and mobility requirements, with the ability to lift up to 75 lbs and travel extensively.

Salary Transparency

The salary range is $65,000 to $85,000, plus bonus. Benefits include health insurance, 401(k), paid time off, and more. Compensation is based on various factors including experience and location.
