The Role

We are seeking a Field Service Engineer for the Western DC area, including Leesburg, VA, Winchester, VA, and Frederick, MD. This is a field-based position offering a company car, gas card, cell phone, and laptop, with all vehicle maintenance covered by QuidelOrtho. The role involves servicing customers throughout the Western DC territory.

The Responsibilities

• Install, operate, maintain, repair, and modify electromechanical equipment in the field, troubleshooting technical problems and system issues.
• Determine technical solutions in accordance with product and customer specifications, advising company or customer representatives on actions.
• Conduct technical analyses of product implementations, modifications, and enhancements per customer specifications.
• Assess customer needs and recommend appropriate solutions.
• Provide technical training and product briefings to customers, vendors, and company representatives. Act as the local on-site representative and manage territory responsibilities, including preventive maintenance, upgrades, and support in hospital/clinic laboratories.
• Manage parts inventory, complete online training, and handle administrative expenses.
• Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

The Individual

Candidates should be aware of customer credentialing requirements, including immunizations, and that reasonable accommodations are provided where lawful.

• Education: Minimum of an Associate's degree in Electronics or Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent military or field service experience.
• Experience: At least 4 years installing, maintaining, and repairing electromechanical equipment in the field.
• Self-motivated team player with good interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Technical knowledge in electromechanical, chemistry, computer, or related disciplines.
• Ability to manage workload within deadlines.
• Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Willing to travel overnight 50-75% for training and territory coverage.
• This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Preferred

• Experience in healthcare or medical device industry.

Key Working Relationships

Internal: Field Service teams, Sales, Technical Support, and other departments.

External: Customers, including laboratory managers and supervisors.

Work Environment

Typical hours with some overtime, outside field environment, requiring discipline and self-motivation. Must maintain a valid driver's license and a suitable vehicle for travel.

Physical Demands

Requires good vision, manual dexterity, and physical ability to travel up to 75%, including lifting up to 75 lbs.

Salary Transparency

The salary range is $65,000 to $85,000, bonus eligible, with a comprehensive benefits package. Compensation depends on experience, skills, and other factors.
