Job summary

Siemens Healthineers is hiring a Proton Therapy Field Service Engineer to maintain and support the Proton Therapy System at on-site locations, with responsibilities spanning safety, maintenance, and customer liaison. Qualifications

  • Associate degree or 2 years of relevant high-tech industry experience
  • Ability to work at heights above 20 feet and in cramped spaces
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken) with a customer-focused attitude
  • Ability to troubleshoot using technical drawings and root-cause methodologies
  • Proficient with mechanical tools: torque wrenches, calipers, micrometers, drills; electrical tools: DMM, oscilloscope; soldering

Responsibilities

  • Maintain professional knowledge and safety per Varian/SHS guidelines
  • Provide visible customer support and assist operation of the system
  • Liaise with the customer on technical/administrative matters
  • Perform on-site quality checks and planned maintenance
  • Provide accurate field service reports
  • Complete required service bulletins and upgrades on time
  • Meet FDA compliance through required training and certifications

Varian Proton Therapy Field Service Engineers provide highly visible customer support with a customer site dedicated team and is responsible for the overall on-site operation, maintenance and performance of the Proton Therapy System.

Varian Proton Therapy Systems utilize the following subsystems:
  • High Vacuum Cryogenics and Superconducting Magnets
  • High Voltage applications, AC and DC RF Power Delivery System
  • X-ray with Computed Tomography
  • Industrial Robots and Motion Control
  • Industrial PLC Controls
  • Radiation Dosimetry
Responsibilities for this position include:
  • Maintain a high degree of professional knowledge and safety consciousness according to Varian/SHS guidelines to perform activities under the safest working conditions.
  • Provide highly visible customer support including assisting our customer in the operation of the system.
  • Serve as a company liaison with the customer on technical and/or administrative matters.
  • Perform all operational quality checks including planned maintenance in a timely manner.
  • Providing accurate, detailed and concise field service reports
  • Complete required assignments, Service Technical Bulletins and Upgrades in a timely manner.
  • Complete mandatory training assignments and certifications on time to maintain FDA compliance.
  • Become proficient in the use of internal software applications for both the business and Proton System such as Microsoft Office Suite, SAP, Salesforce, Siemens PLC GUI and Varian Treatment Control applications.
  • Be responsible for and/or support other field service site roles such as Site Safety Coordinator, Spare Parts Inventory Controller or Radiation Safety Coordinator.
  • Meet all Vendor Credentialing requirements necessary to gain VMS client site access, unless prohibited by law.
Vendor Credentialing Requirements (varied by client and may include but are not limited to):
  • Proof of valid identification (photo, driver’s license, SSN)
  • Criminal background checks
  • Drug screens
  • Immunizations (Hep B, MMR, Varicella, Influenza, Tetanus)
  • Annual TB testing
  • Healthcare trainings (provided by Varian)
Shift Schedule:
  • 1st, 2nd or 3rd, 8 hrs./day
  • Compressed Work Schedule, 10 or 12 hrs./day or night
  • 3 or 4 days/nights per week
  • Rotating Weekends
  • Up to 85% Travel can be expected
Minimum Required Skills and Knowledge
  • Associate’s degree in an Engineering Technologies field of study OR 2 Years of prior applicable experience in military or high tech industry
  • Must be able to occasionally work at heights above 20 feet or in cramped spaces
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken
  • Must have a customer focused attitude
  • Ability to troubleshoot by utilizing technical drawings and employment of root cause methodologies
  • All candidates are expected to demonstrate intermediate level of knowledge in the proper use of the following tooling: Mechanical: Torque Wrenches; Precision Gauges & Levels; Vernier Scales, Calipers and Micrometers; Drills, Saws, Taps and Dies; Lubrication and Adhesives Electrical: Digital Multi-Meter, Oscilloscopes, Circuit/Component tooling; Soldering
Other Desired Skills and Knowledge
  • Fluency in German, written and spoken
  • Fundamental knowledge of computer and network systems
  • Previous experience in either a High Tech industry or Military technical support roles

Note: Candidate must live within close proximity or be willing to relocate to New York, NY. This is an on-site position that requires onsite work at local customer locations.

The base pay range for this position is: $69,890 - $96,096. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

If this is a commission eligible position the commission eligibility will be in accordance with the terms of the Company's plan. Commissions are based on individual performance and/or company performance.
