Job summary

Instron seeks a Field Service Engineer to support customers across Texas from a home-based location. You will travel to sites to install, calibrate, diagnose, and service electro-mechanical systems, acting as the technical expert for customers and colleagues.

Ideal candidates bring strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, ability to read schematics, and experience training customers or users on complex equipment. Travel is substantial but rewarding.

Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
• Military technical experience or trade school training may substitute for a degree.
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
• Comfort with Windows-based computers and technical software.
• Excellent organization, communication, and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Travel to customer facilities to perform preventive maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting and repairs.
• Install and commission new systems at customer sites.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and software issues.
• Provide technical guidance and hands-on training to customers.
• Complete service reports and expense documentation.

• Follow safety procedures and support Texas-wide coverage with travel as needed.

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated Field Service Engineer to support customers throughout Texas. This is a home-based position where you'll work independently while receiving the support of an experienced technical team.

Every day is different. One day you may be calibrating precision testing equipment, the next installing a new system or troubleshooting a customer's critical production issue. You'll become the trusted technical expert our customers depend on to keep their equipment operating at peak performance.

What You'll Do

• Travel to customer facilities to perform:
  • Preventive maintenance
  • Equipment calibration
  • Troubleshooting and repairs
  • Installation and commissioning of new systems
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and software-related issues.
• Provide customers with technical guidance and hands-on training.
• Complete accurate service documentation, field reports, and expense reports.
• Maintain a high level of professionalism and customer satisfaction during every service visit.
• Follow all company and customer safety procedures.
• Support customers throughout Texas, with occasional travel to other regions as business needs require.

Travel

• Daily travel throughout Houston and Texas.
• Routine overnight travel is approximately 75%, with occasional additional travel outside the region for training, customer support, or special projects.

Preferred qualifications include:

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.

• Previous field service experience.
• Preventive or corrective maintenance on electro-mechanical or servo-hydraulic equipment.
• Experience with materials testing systems.
• Experience delivering technical training to customers in both hand-on and classroom settings.
• Industrial automation or controls experience.
