Job summary

Novaspect, Inc., located in Chanhassen, Minnesota, seeks a Field Service Engineer to provide solutions for industrial customers. The successful candidate will support Engineering and Sales by designing process control solutions.

This role will involve site support, troubleshooting various systems, leading maintenance visits, and helping transition customers to digital transformation technologies. The position will require significant travel (up to 65%) to customer sites.

In addition to a competitive salary range of $85,000 – $95,000, the role includes a bonus potential and excellent benefits including a 401(k) with matching and generous paid time off.

Job Overview

Novaspect, Inc., an Emerson Impact Partner and a global leader in automation systems and solutions, invites applications for a Field Service Engineer. The successful candidate will support Engineering and Sales in the design and delivery of process control solutions for industrial customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work with customers to become a Trusted Advisor by actively listening and communicating to accomplish their objectives.
  • Provide ongoing site support, including:
    • Distributed Control System configuration, commissioning, startup, and tuning.
    • Field instrumentation and system‑related troubleshooting and problem resolution.
    • Basic to complex loop tuning.
    • Creation and management of interfaces to PLCs, drives, and various control bus networks.
    • Basic to complex cybersecurity maintenance.
    • Setup and configuration of Microsoft Windows administrative functions.
    • Creation and management of Ethernet‑IP networks.
  • Lead preventive maintenance visits, audit control system power and grounding.
  • Recommend and implement plant‑floor digital transformation technologies, including Operational Analytics, Product Data Management, and Operations Management Systems.
  • Travel to customer facilities and develop solutions with customer‑provided information, system design, remote access, backup system files, and virtual systems.
  • Develop and deliver operator training.
  • Provide clear and frequent communications through: diagnostic and troubleshooting over phone or video, in‑person visits, detailed engineering reports with recommendations, independent customer interface, technical review of opportunities, system‑generated reports, actionable recommendations, and capturing leads for additional product or service opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the team by sharing knowledge, lessons learned, leading projects, mentoring other Control System Engineers, supporting the Novaspect Technical Access Line (NTA), and working closely with sales.
  • Represent Novaspect’s core behaviors, quality, customer service, and brand; develop advanced skills and comply with internal and customer safety programs.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a technical field or equivalent work experience.
  • 2–4 years of experience in control system engineering.
  • Experience with DeltaV preferred.
  • Demonstrated excellence in core job responsibilities and competencies.
  • Ability to act as an embedded engineer at a customer location and work independently as the primary technical interface for customers or the sales team.
Physical Requirements
  • Lift up to 30 lbs for workstation monitors and laptops.
  • Work extended hours on a computer.
  • Work in loud industrial environments.
  • Must be willing to work at customer sites including oil & gas, refineries, nuclear and chemical plants, paper, and steel mills.
  • Ability to be clean‑shaven to accommodate PPE requirements such as respirators.
  • Travel to customer sites up to 65% of the time.
Pay
  • Base Salary Range: $85,000 – $95,000
  • Potential Bonus: 5%
