Job summary

Novaspect, Inc. is seeking an Instrumentation & Control Technician to join their team in Des Moines, Iowa. In this role, you'll participate in automation process control, troubleshoot instrumentation issues, and ensure proper installation and communication of equipment.

The ideal candidate will have a technical degree and be proficient in various communication protocols and PLC programming. Competitive hourly rate ranges from $40 to $50, with benefits including generous paid time off and a 401(k) match.

Job description

Novaspect, Inc., an Emerson Impact Partner and global leader in automation systems and solutions, is offering an opportunity for an Instrumentation & Control Technician (Field Automation Specialist) to join our team.

Responsibilities
  • Participate with customers in automation process control instrumentation and equipment startup.
  • Verify, troubleshoot, and resolve instrumentation and equipment communications.
  • Inspect instrument wiring, power, and grounding of installations using a process meter.
  • Set up instruments with Hart 475 or TREX field communicator.
  • Read P&ID’s for process control configurations.
  • Work with onsite installation crew.
  • Replace and install instrumentation, RTU, PLC and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot program logic, process control, and equipment.
  • Develop solutions to resolve process control from device to SCADA.
  • Install and calibrate flow measurement equipment (Coriolis, mag meter, mass flow meters, and ultrasonic meters).
  • Manage onsite control project installation and startup activities, including construction supervision and supplier coordination.
  • Provide process control, programming, and equipment phone support.
  • Respond effectively and promptly to customer requests or inquiries.
  • Demonstrate crucial communication skills with customers.
  • Document services provided to customers clearly and effectively.
  • Meet project team commitments and deadlines.
  • Travel to customer facilities as required.
Qualifications
  • Technical degree in electrical or instrumentation discipline or equivalent experience in industrial automation and instrumentation.
  • Proficient in communication protocols Modbus, DNP3 for both TCP/IP and serial.
  • Proficient with all types of I/O: Analog, Digital, Pulse, and Hart.
  • Familiarity with programming and configuration on Beijer, Rosemont, Micro Motion, ROC, Floboss, Redlion, and Allen Bradley PLC’s.
  • Familiarity with ABB, Rosemont, Micro Motion, ROC, Floboss, Allen Bradley PLC.
  • Familiar with I/O checkout, configuration, and commissioning process.
  • Training/Certification in 3 or more areas of automation.
Additional Requirements
  • Experience managing customer projects and working independently.
  • Current driver’s license.
  • Proficient with MS Office suite.
  • Participate in on-call rotation with existing technical staff.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Use hands to grasp and manipulate small objects/tools.
  • Work with hand tools.
  • Work at heights.
  • Stoop, crawl, and crouch while working on equipment on hands and knees.
  • Work on feet for 8 hours per day.
  • Operate in a loud industrial environment.
  • Work around industrial equipment with exposed moving parts.
  • Climb stairs (up to 20 flights per day).
  • Climb a 20 ft ladder.
  • Operate with up to 480 volts.
  • Drive on average 3‑4 hours per day; drive 8 hours as needed.
  • Work in high and cold temperature environments for extended hours.
Pay

Hourly Rate: $40 - $50 (overtime eligible). Company vehicle, cell phone, and tools provided. The final offer will be based on factors including experience, skill set, qualifications, and internal pay equity.
