Job description

Clearwater Industries • Industrial Water Treatment • Brown Deer, WI (Milwaukee area)

Full-Time, Non-Exempt (Hourly, Overtime Eligible)

Position Summary

Field Service Engineer | $38 - $40/hr + Paid Travel

Join Clearwater Industries as a Field Service Engineer and become the hands‑on face of our industrial water clarification equipment. You will commission systems at customer sites, solve real problems in the field, and build deep technical skill along the way. When you are not traveling, you will work from our Brown Deer shop on factory acceptance testing, electrical assembly, and process testing for equipment headed to the field.

We hire for capability and trajectory. The right aptitude and a willingness to travel and learn matter more than years of prior commissioning experience or a formal engineering degree.

Travel Expectations
  • Travel starts at approximately 30% and grows to roughly 75% as your field capability grows.
  • Primarily US‑based, with occasional international trips (primarily Canada and Mexico, approximately 5% of total travel).
  • Most trips run within the Monday‑to‑Friday work week and last no more than that single week, so you are home most weekends.
  • This role is a great fit if regular weekday travel fits your lifestyle.
Compensation & Benefits
  • $38 - $40 per hour, plus paid travel expenses; overtime eligible.
  • Company 401K Plan with a 3% employer contribution.
  • Health Insurance Program.
  • Company‑Paid Group Life Insurance and Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
  • Paid Time Off, Paid Holidays, and Jury Duty, Bereavement, and Voting Leave.
  • Tuition Reimbursement for Continuing Education.
  • Onsite Exercise Equipment, Aikido Dojo, and Yoga/Meditation Spaces.
  • Adjacent to the Oak Leaf Trail System for Bike Commuting or Outdoor Activities.
Key ResponsibilitiesIn the Field
  • Commission and start up water treatment equipment, including clarifiers, polymer systems, pump skids, and DAF units, at customer sites.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues on installed equipment, with remote support from our Engineering team.
  • Perform site process tuning and chemistry adjustments, including polymer optimization.
  • Train customer operators on equipment operation, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting during commissioning and on follow‑up visits.
  • Perform warranty repairs.
  • Document trips thoroughly: service reports, commissioning checklists, drawing markups, and program changes communicated back to the office.
In the Shop
  • Assist with factory acceptance testing (FAT) on completed equipment before it ships.
  • Support in‑shop electrical assembly and wiring.
  • Conduct jar testing and process work to inform polymer selection and dosing.
  • Provide phone and remote troubleshooting support to existing customers.
  • Handle service and parts inquiries, and relay field findings to engineering and sales.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of mechanical and rotating equipment: pumps, gear drives, valves.
  • Working knowledge of electrical and pneumatic controls (PLC, HMI, VFD, relay, ladder logic) at a troubleshooting level; deep programming is not required.
  • Ability to troubleshoot with a whole‑system view, as well as down to individual components.
  • Ability to read and mark up mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Willing and able to travel.
  • Valid US passport, or eligibility to obtain one, for infrequent international travel, primarily to Canada and Mexico.
  • Prior field service or commissioning experience on industrial or municipal process equipment, especially clarifiers, DAF, or polymer systems, is preferred but not required. We invest in training the right person.
Skills
  • Self‑starter who uses available resources before escalating.
  • Strong communicator who asks good questions, flags issues clearly, and documents thoroughly.
  • Sound judgment on customer sites: represents the company well, stays composed in difficult situations, and knows when to elevate.
  • Comfortable working independently, with a lifestyle that fits regular travel.
