Job summary

Tennyson Electric Inc is seeking a Field Safety Representative to serve as a visible safety partner on active projects in California. You will plan work, recognize hazards, coach teams, and implement practical controls before incidents occur.

Qualifications

• OSHA 30-Hour Construction cert within previous five years or able to obtain within 30 days.
• Minimum five years of construction, maintenance, utility, electrical, or related field experience.
• Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification, or able to obtain within 30 days.
• Ability to read and apply safety policies, project plans, JHAs, manufacturer instructions, and regulatory requirements.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn mobile inspection, training, telematics, and safety-documentation platforms.
• Valid driver's license and authorization for employer to review motor vehicle records.

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine field inspections to identify unsafe conditions, at-risk behaviors, equipment concerns, and documentation gaps.
• Partner with foremen, project teams, subcontractors, and client representatives on safety planning and performance.
• Review and support completion of daily JHAs, pre-task plans, toolbox talks, inspections, and documentation.
• Participate in pre-construction planning meetings to evaluate high-risk work and confirm controls.
• Provide new-hire orientation, task coaching, refresher training, tailgate meetings, and safety alerts.
• Apply policies and project requirements and initiate corrective action for imminent hazards.
• Support Site-Specific Safety Plans, emergency procedures, and safety postings.
• Observe excavation, trenching, electrical work, traffic control, lifting, and other hazards.
• Assist with incident investigations by gathering facts, photos, statements, and records.
• Coordinate injury response, medical communications, post-incident testing, and return-to-work per Safety Manager.
• Maintain safety records, inspection reports, training rosters, corrective-action logs, and certifications.
• Monitor PPE use and identify deficiencies in tools, vehicles, or work procedures.
• Escalate safety concerns and provide status updates to management.
• Travel between active projects and company locations for startups, training, audits, and emergencies.

Job Summary:

The Field Safety Representative is a visible, field-based safety partner who helps employees and supervisors plan work, recognize hazards, and implement practical controls before incidents occur. This role conducts inspections, provides coaching and training, supports incident response, maintains required records, and promotes compliance with company policies, project requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations. The Field Safety Representative is a crucial part of the Safety and Management teams, with responsibilities to implement and advance safety culture and safety partnership within the company.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conduct routine and focused field inspections to identify unsafe conditions, at-risk behaviors, equipment concerns, and documentation gaps; communicate findings and verify corrective actions are completed.
• Partner with foremen, general foremen, project teams, subcontractors, and client representatives to strengthen job planning and site-specific safety performance.
• Review and support completion of daily Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), pre-task plans, toolbox talks, equipment inspections, and other required field documentation before work begins.
• Participate in pre-construction and pre-activity planning meetings to evaluate high-risk work and confirm effective controls are in place.
• Provide new-hire orientation, task-specific coaching, refresher training, tailgate meetings, and safety alerts using clear, field-focused communication.
• Apply company policies and project safety requirements consistently and respectfully; initiate immediate corrective action when an imminent hazard exists.
• Support implementation and maintenance of Site-Specific Safety Plans, emergency procedures, and required project safety postings.
• Observe work involving excavation and trenching, electrical construction, traffic control, lifting operations, mobile equipment, confined spaces, work at height, and other construction hazards
• Assist with near-miss, injury, vehicle, property-damage, and equipment incident investigations by gathering facts, photographs, statements, and supporting records.
• Coordinate injury response, medical-provider communication, post-incident testing, and return-to-work activities as directed by the Safety Manager and Human Resources.
• Maintain organized safety records, inspection reports, training rosters, corrective-action logs, certifications, and digital system entries.
• Monitor PPE use and condition and identify deficiencies involving tools, vehicles, trailers, equipment, housekeeping, access, or work procedures.
• Escalate unresolved, repeated, or serious safety concerns promptly and provide accurate status updates to management.
• Travel between active projects and company locations and support project startups, special training, audits, and emergency response as needed.

AUTHORITY AND STOP-WORK RESPONSIBILITY

• Immediately stop or pause work when an imminent danger, serious uncontrolled hazard, or clear violation of a critical safety requirement is observed.
• Notify the responsible supervisor and Safety Manager, document the condition, and support development of an acceptable corrective action before work resumes.
• Exercise stop-work authority professionally, with the focus on hazard correction and employee protection.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification completed within the previous five years, or the ability to obtain it within 30 days of employment; continuing safety education is expected.
• Minimum five years of construction, maintenance, utility, electrical, or related field experience
• Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification, or the ability to obtain it within 30 days of employment.
• Working knowledge of construction hazard recognition and the hierarchy of controls.
• Ability to read and apply safety policies, project plans, JHAs, manufacturer instructions, and regulatory requirements.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn mobile inspection, training, telematics, and safety-documentation platforms.
• Valid driver's license and authorization for Tennyson Electric, LLC to review motor vehicle records.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required customer, facility, or project access credentials and badges.
• Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate records.
• Professional communication skills, sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to handle sensitive or complex situations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Construction Management, or related safety field
• 3+ years of prior safety experience is strongly preferred.
• Experience with incident investigation, root-cause analysis, corrective-action tracking, and regulatory inspections.
• Competent-person or qualified-person training relevant to excavation, confined spaces, fall protection, traffic control, or other company operations.
• Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills.
• Experience supporting union construction environments and multiple concurrent projects.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Frequently works outdoors at active construction sites in heat, cold, wind, rain, dust, noise, uneven terrain, and around moving vehicles and equipment.
• Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods; climb permanent and temporary stairs and ladders; and stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, balance, reach, and use hands to operate tools or electronic devices.
• Must be able to access trenches, structures, work zones, and other construction areas when safe and authorized.
• Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment and comply with drug-free workplace requirements.
• Regular regional travel is required. Occasional extended travel, early starts, after-hours response, and emergency availability may be necessary.
