Job description

Position Summary

At Five Star Infrastructure Services, safety is the foundation of everything we do. We are seeking an experienced Field Safety Representative to support our field operations by promoting a proactive safety culture, ensuring regulatory compliance, and partnering with operations teams to prevent workplace incidents.


The Field Safety Representative will spend the majority of their time in the field, visiting active construction sites, coaching employees and subcontractors, conducting safety inspections, investigating incidents, and ensuring compliance with OSHA, DOT, customer, and company safety requirements. This position requires extensive travel within assigned regions and the ability to build strong working relationships with field personnel while maintaining accountability for safe work practices.


Essential Responsibilities


  • Conduct regular field safety inspections of construction projects, facilities, yards, and equipment.

  • Perform jobsite audits to verify compliance with OSHA, DOT, customer, and company safety requirements.

  • Provide coaching and mentoring to field employees, supervisors, and subcontractors regarding safe work practices.

  • Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors and work with operations to implement timely corrective actions.

  • Lead and participate in incident, injury, vehicle accident, and near-miss investigations.

  • Prepare detailed investigation reports and identify root causes and corrective actions.

  • Conduct safety orientations for new employees and subcontractors.

  • Deliver safety training on topics including:

    • Excavation and trenching

    • Utility locating

    • Confined space

    • Lockout/Tagout

    • Electrical safety

    • Traffic control

    • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

    • Defensive driving

    • Hazard communication

    • Review Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Pre-Task Plans, and Daily Tailgate Meetings for effectiveness.



  • Monitor contractor compliance with company and customer safety expectations.

  • Assist project teams with site-specific safety planning.

  • Ensure required OSHA, DOT, and customer documentation is completed accurately and maintained.

  • Conduct equipment inspections and verify proper maintenance records.

  • Monitor compliance with drug and alcohol policies and assist with post-incident testing procedures.

  • Assist in emergency response planning and drills.

  • Participate in customer safety meetings and audits.

  • Track safety observations, inspections, corrective actions, and performance metrics.

  • Recommend continuous improvements to company safety programs.

  • Serve as a trusted safety resource for field operations and leadership.


Qualifications


  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or related field preferred.

  • Minimum 3-5 years of construction safety experience.

  • Utility construction, underground construction, pipeline, electric, gas, telecommunications, or infrastructure experience strongly preferred.

  • Working knowledge of OSHA 1926 Construction Standards.

  • Understanding of DOT regulations and fleet safety.

  • Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis.

  • Strong knowledge of excavation safety and utility construction hazards.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and mobile reporting applications.

  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.


Preferred Certifications


  • OSHA 500 or OSHA Outreach Trainer

  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)

  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP)

  • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST)

  • First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor or Certification

  • Competent Person Certification (Excavation/Trenching)

  • DOT Reasonable Suspicion Training

  • Defensive Driving Instructor (preferred)


Physical Requirements


  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

  • Frequent travel to active construction sites.

  • Ability to walk uneven terrain for extended periods.

  • Ability to climb ladders, enter excavations, and inspect confined work areas as permitted.

  • Frequently lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to wear all required PPE.

  • Ability to drive long distances throughout assigned territory.

  • Occasional overnight travel as business needs require.
