Job summary

Australia-Employment is seeking a Safety Coordinator to support large transmission, distribution, substation, and utility projects in Cedar Rapids, IA. The role emphasizes field visits, coaching crews, and promoting a strong safety culture while ensuring OSHA compliance and client requirements.

The coordinator will conduct site inspections, lead safety training, and drive continuous improvement across multiple sites, including collaboration with field operations and leadership teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of safety experience in electrical utilities, construction, industrial, or infrastructure environments
• Knowledge of OSHA standards and utility construction safety practices
• Experience with transmission, distribution, substation, renewable energy, or heavy civil projects preferred
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to influence field teams and leadership
• Ability to identify hazards and implement corrective actions in fast-paced field environments
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and safety reporting systems
• Excellent documentation and follow-through skills
• Ability to travel regionally to project sites

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular jobsite safety inspections, audits, and observations on active utility construction projects
• Ensure OSHA regulations, safety policies, and client standards are met
• Collaborate with project managers and crews to promote safe work practices
• Develop and implement site-specific safety plans and JHAs
• Lead safety orientations and toolbox talks
• Investigate incidents, near misses, and corrective actions
• Monitor contractor safety performance and compliance
• Support DOT compliance, equipment inspections, PPE programs
• Maintain safety records and reports
• Participate in client safety meetings and audits
• Drive behavioral-based safety initiatives and continuous improvement
• Provide field coaching on safe practices
