We specialize in earthwork, land clearing, pond construction, roadway and bridges, construction and site layout, wet and dry utilities, concrete construction, and specialized rock excavation.
We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety and environmental compliance. As we continue to grow and expand our operations, we are seeking a skilled and experienced Safety Coordinator to join our team and help ensure the well-being of all personnel on our construction sites.
Objective(s)
Administer safety and environmental programs consistent with the Company’s and the various operating groups’ business objectives. This should be done under the guidelines of the Company’s safety and risk management programs as well as federal, state, and local rules, regulations, and standards. This includes involvement in evaluating safety and environmental requirements, pre-job safety planning, and program development on successfully bid projects, assisting in the evaluation of corporate policy and procedure compliance; and coordinating and assisting management in its effort to provide a safe, healthy work environment and cost-effective administration.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal safety regulations, including OSHA standards, as well as company-specific safety policies and procedures.
- Risk Assessment: Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards, unsafe practices, and areas for improvements.
- Safety Training: Assist in developing and delivering safety training programs, toolbox talks, and workshops for employees, subcontractors, and visitors to enhance safety awareness and knowledge.
- Incident Investigation: Lead and coordinate incident investigations, including near-misses and accidents, to determine root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Safety Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety records, including incident reports, safety training documentation, and safety data sheets.
- Emergency Preparedness: Develop and implement emergency response plans and procedures, ensuring that all personnel are aware of the protocols in case of emergencies.
- Safety Meetings: Organize and lead regular safety meetings with project teams and management to discuss safety performance, challenges, and improvements.
- Safety Culture: Promote a positive safety culture across all levels of the organization, encouraging active participation in safety initiatives and recognizing individuals for their safety efforts.
- Safety Inspections: Collaborate with project managers to conduct safety inspections, review safety permits, and ensure compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Safety Reporting: Prepare and submit safety reports to management, highlighting key safety metrics, trends, and areas for improvement.
Dimensions/Comments
Requires minimal supervision in administering safety programs within company guidelines. Must be capable of independent action and decision making within specific safety requirements.
Qualification Profile
- Educational and experience requirements include two-year occupational safety/health degree or equivalent combinations of training and related experience.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent .
- Professional certification through ASSE, BCSP, AIHA, or equivalent.
- Minimum of Five years related to heavy and highway construction and safety experience with a large construction company or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Advanced knowledge of and ability to enforce all federal, state, local, and company regulations.
- Advances knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, TCEQ, City of Austin and Texas Department of Transportation standards.
- Preferably OSHA 510 & OSHA 500
- Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective actions.
- Must be available to make routine trips to various field locations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively train and engage personnel at all levels.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills to maintain comprehensive safety documentation.
- Preferably bilingual (Spanish)
