Job summary

Gritt is seeking a Field Software Engineer to bridge our autonomy stack with live construction sites. You’ll deploy, tune and troubleshoot software directly in the field, working hands-on with perception, planning, and control systems in dynamic outdoor environments.

You will travel to active job sites, debug under time pressure, and own issues from root cause to shipped fix, while collaborating with hardware, software and operations teams to improve reliability and field readiness.

Qualifications

• Degree in CS/ robotics/ EE or related field.
• 2+ years hands-on experience deploying software for robotics or autonomous systems in real-world or field environments.
• Experience with ROS2 and working across the autonomy stack (perception, planning, control).
• Proficient in Python and C++.
• Comfortable with on-site troubleshooting and time pressure in unstructured environments.

Responsibilities

• Deploy and support our autonomy stack directly on robots at active construction sites.
• Perform on-site troubleshooting and root cause analysis when robots misbehave in the field, driving fixes back into the codebase.
• Tune and calibrate sensing systems (LIDAR, cameras, IMU) for site-specific conditions and terrain.
• Build and maintain tools for remote monitoring, telemetry, and diagnostics to catch issues before field deployment.
• Act as the technical liaison between hardware, software, and site operations, translating field feedback into priorities.
• Author clear documentation and SOPs to support deployments and operator training.
• Contribute improvements to the autonomy stack based on field learnings.
• Help optimize system performance under real field constraints (connectivity, power, weather, terrain).
