Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a field inspector to perform highway construction inspections at project locations across multiple states, including on-site work under direct supervision from senior inspectors and engineers.

You will verify contractor work, review daily reports, and assist with material testing while applying knowledge of plans, specifications, and safety procedures. A high school diploma and valid driver's license are required.

Qualifications

• Must communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Basic arithmetic proficiency.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Ability to learn new technologies and software quickly.
• Knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, drawings, and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections of traffic control, environmental controls, layout, construction methods and materials under direct supervision.
• Determine acceptability of contractor’s day‑to‑day work and review daily reports for quality control.
• Review material testing procedures and results for conformance to contract; may sample and test soil, aggregates, concrete and asphalt.
