Job summary

Sperry Rail Service seeks a motivated trainee/apprentice to be trained into a Certified Professional Operator in Rail Flaw Detection. The role requires long travel across eastern or western US for multi-month periods, with paid training and progression to lead a crew.

Upon certification, you may operate testing platforms and potentially lead teams, with a clear career path and company-supported development throughout. Travel and lodging are paid.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Basic computer proficiency required.
• Ability to multitask and work with tools/equipment.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Attend and complete training at Sperry School of Rail Flaw Detection.
• Learn rail detection methods across Short Line and Class I railways.
• Achieve ultrasonic testing certification and apply in the field.
• Work with a crew and develop leadership to lead a team.
• Gain knowledge of Sperry’s diagnostic technologies and interfaces.
• Develop mechanical aptitude, including setup and basic repairs.
• Follow railroad safety procedures and travel on extended assignments.
• Apply training during 3–4 month field travels.
