Job summary

Perma-Fix Environmental Services, Inc. seeks a field Health Physics Technician to implement the Radiation Safety Program and ensure compliance with regulations. You will monitor radiological work controls, interpret field survey data, and support incident response.

Responsibilities include processing shipments, conducting area surveys, issuing permits, maintaining records, and possibly leading other staff. Strong communication and knowledge of safety rules are required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED
• AS degree in Nuclear Technology or equivalent preferred
• NRRPT certification preferred
• Effective verbal and written communication skills in a team setting
• Detailed knowledge of local, state and federal radiation safety compliance regulations
• Detailed knowledge of radiation safety monitoring instrumentation and methods
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and database applications

Responsibilities

• Processes routine incoming/outgoing radioactive shipments and monitors for contamination and dose levels.
• Collects, analyzes and interprets results of samples to ensure compliance with radiation safety regulations.
• Conducts area surveys to identify elevated exposure or contamination; responds to incidents and emergencies.
• Issues radiation work permits and briefs personnel on radiological conditions and requirements.
• Monitors and controls access to radiologically controlled areas.
• Operates radiological counting and air sampling equipment; ensures equipment maintenance.
• Maintains field radiation protection records and permits entry/exit logs.
• May lead, train, and direct the work of other Health Physics staff.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
