Job summary

Sterling Industrial is seeking a skilled Boiler/Pressure Vessel Inspector to join our field teams. Based in Indiana but serving multi-state clients, you will interpret welding codes, read blueprints, and inspect boilers, pressure vessels, and piping during outages.

Responsibilities include directing boilermakers, coordinating with union crafts and plant personnel, maintaining weld qualification records, and ensuring traceability and quality across outages.

Qualifications

• Excellent verbal and written communication with internal and external customers.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must have a current CWI certification.

Responsibilities

• Interpret AWS, ASME, NBIC codes and apply to field work.
• Read blueprints and welding procedures.
• Inspect boilers, pressure vessels, power piping and structural steel.
• Perform weld tests and update qualification records.
• Direct boilermakers and steamfitters in repair plans and welding.
• Coordinate with union crafts and plant personnel during outages.
• Maintain traceability of welding during outages and ensure quality standards.

Sterling Industrial, headquartered in Evansville, Indiana was founded and incorporated in 1982. Our company began and grew from a need for swift, reliable service for utilities in southern Indiana. _Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• _Interpreting AWS, ASME, National Board of Boilers and Pressure Vessels, along with Jurisdictional Codes and applying them to field applications
• _Knowledge and understanding of blue print reading
• _Performing inspections of boilers, pressure vessels, power piping and structural steel
• _Giving weld tests to crafts people at union locals for certifications
• _Updating welder qualification records
• _Constructing repair plans
• _Directing boilermakers and steamfitters in the manner of repair plans and welding
• _Coordinating with union crafts and plant personnel including outside inspection companies during scheduled plant outages
• _Providing trace-ability of all welding during repair work on boilers during a scheduled Power Plant Outage
• _Implementing and Managing quality standards over union crafts during a scheduled outage
• _Remaining on call for unscheduled forced outages 24/7
• _Knowledge of NDE processes, UT, PAUT, MT, PT and VT.
• _Keeping track of quotes and billing from third party inspection companies
• _Maintaining good customer relationships
• _Building job packages and inspection reports with documentation of work performed for turnover to customers as well as the National Board of Boilers and Pressure Vessels and the Jurisdiction

_Education and/or Work Experience Requirement:

• _Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customer
• _Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office –Word, Excel, and Outlook)
• _Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
• _Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard practices
• _High school diploma or GED required
• _Must have a current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) Certification.

_Physical Requirements:

• _Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federals, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
• _Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance
• _Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
