Job summary

HTU is seeking an assessor-appraiser support role in Northeastern Indiana near Fort Wayne. The position focuses on collecting property data, inspecting structures, and documenting findings for valuation.

You will interact with property owners and contractors, perform exterior measurements, and help maintain timely reports for ongoing projects. The role requires outdoor work in all weather, a valid driver’s license, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Residence in or near Fort Wayne (Northeastern Indiana)
• Familiarity with general building construction
• Strong mathematical aptitude
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; tolerate bending, kneeling, stairs
• Comfort working outdoors in all seasons and weather
• Effective verbal communication with the public during visits
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
• Real estate training is a plus
• Indiana Level III Assessor-Appraiser certificate preferred but not required

Responsibilities

• Review, gather, and record property characteristics relevant for valuation
• Inspect properties to evaluate construction, condition, features, and design
• Measure and inspect exterior areas of properties
• Photograph exterior features as required
• Serve as a public-facing representative of the appraisal team
• Interview property owners or contractors to obtain information
• Submit regular progress reports against assigned work
