Job summary

HTU is seeking an assessor-appraiser support role in Northeastern Indiana near Fort Wayne. The position focuses on collecting property data, inspecting structures, and documenting findings for valuation.

You will interact with property owners and contractors, perform exterior measurements, and help maintain timely reports for ongoing projects. The role requires outdoor work in all weather, a valid driver’s license, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Residence in or near Fort Wayne (Northeastern Indiana)
• Familiarity with general building construction
• Strong mathematical aptitude
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; tolerate bending, kneeling, stairs
• Comfort working outdoors in all seasons and weather
• Effective verbal communication with the public during visits
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
• Real estate training is a plus
• Indiana Level III Assessor-Appraiser certificate preferred but not required

Responsibilities

Your Role

Key responsibilities include:

• Reviewing, gathering, and recording specific property characteristics relevant for property valuation.
• Inspecting properties to evaluate construction, condition, special features, and functional design.
• Measuring and inspecting the exterior of properties.
• Photographing the exterior of properties as required.
• Serving as a public-facing representative of the appraisal team, maintaining professional communication and appearance.
• Interviewing property owners or contractors to obtain pertinent information.
• Submitting regular reports to track progress against assigned work.

About You

The company is looking for candidates who have:

• Residence in or near Northeastern Indiana around the Fort Wayne area.
• Familiarity with general building construction.
• Strong mathematical aptitude.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, including bending, stretching, kneeling, climbing stairs, and carrying 5-10 lbs of equipment.
• Comfort working outdoors in all seasons and weather conditions.
• Effective verbal communication skills to put at ease members of the public during property visits.
• Valid driver’s license and dependable transportation.
• Real estate training is a plus.
• Indiana Level III Assessor-Appraiser certificate preferred but not required.
