Job description

The Field Project Manager oversees the day-to-day execution of heavy civil construction projects in the field, working closely with Superintendents, Project Managers, and Estimators to ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, and within budget. Projects include site development, mass earthwork, underground wet utilities, and concrete paving, where the majority of work is self-performed.

About the Role

The Field Project Manager is responsible for managing daily field operations for assigned heavy civil projects from mobilization through completion.

Responsibilities
  • Field Operations & Project Execution
  • Manage daily field operations for assigned heavy civil projects from mobilization through completion.
  • Coordinate and support Superintendents in executing work plans, schedules, and production goals.
  • Oversee self-perform scopes including:
  • Clearing and site preparation
  • Dirt work and mass excavation
  • Concrete paving and associated concrete structures
  • Monitor jobsite productivity, sequencing, and manpower to ensure project milestones are met.
  • Coordination & Communication:
  • Serve as a key liaison between field crews, Superintendents, Project Managers, and office support teams.
  • Coordinate subcontractor work for specialty scopes including asphalt, plumbing/fire lines, dry utilities, SWPPP, signs, and striping.
  • Participate in daily and weekly jobsite meetings, safety meetings, and coordination meetings.
  • Communicate schedule impacts, production challenges, and field needs to project leadership.
  • Cost, Schedule & Quality Control:
  • Track field production quantities, labor hours, and equipment usage.
  • Assist with cost control by monitoring field performance against the project budget.
  • Identify potential change conditions and assist with documentation and communication to the Project Manager.
  • Ensure work is performed in compliance with project plans, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Safety & Compliance:
  • Promote and enforce company safety policies and jobsite safety plans.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, project-specific safety requirements, and environmental regulations.
  • Support jobsite inspections and audits as required.
  • Preconstruction & Closeout Support:
  • Participate in preconstruction planning, site walks, and constructability reviews.
  • Assist with project closeout activities including punch lists, as-built documentation, and final inspections.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in heavy civil construction with strong field operations exposure.
  • Experience working on projects involving:
  • Site development and earthwork
  • Houston subdivisions
  • Concrete paving
  • Strong understanding of civil construction means and methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and schedules.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with Superintendents and field crews.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Required Skills
  • Experience with public works or TxDOT projects.
  • Familiarity with production tracking, quantity reporting, and cost awareness.
  • Background with self-perform heavy civil contractors.
