Job summary

Employment & Training Centers, Inc. is seeking a Field Engineer to support heavy civil construction projects in the Greater Houston area.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field preferred.
• Entry-level and recent graduates will be considered.
• Internship, co-op, survey, field, or construction experience is a plus.
• Strong interest in field operations and heavy civil construction.
• Experience with underground utilities, pipelines, water/wastewater, drainage, roadway, or tunneling is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Support field execution of underground water, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, large-diameter pipelines, lift stations, and roadwork.
• Assist Superintendent with daily planning, crew coordination, and material needs.
• Develop knowledge of plans, specifications, and construction sequencing.
• Coordinate with surveyors and verify layout information and elevations.
• Measure and track quantities, production, labor, and equipment.
• Provide accurate field information for daily reports and cost tracking.
• Maintain field documentation and as-built records.
• Review drawings with field leadership to ensure latest information is used.
• Support RFIs by gathering dimensions, photos, and sketches.
• Coordinate material deliveries and site access with field personnel.

Field Engineer – Heavy Civil Construction

Our client is seeking a Field Engineer to support Superintendents, Project Managers, and project teams on heavy civil and public infrastructure projects throughout the Greater Houston area. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career civil engineering or construction management professional who wants substantial hands-on experience in the field.

The Field Engineer will help translate plans and specifications into safe, accurate, and productive field execution. The role will focus on field coordination, layout and quantity verification, production tracking, quality documentation, coordination with inspectors and surveyors, and direct support of construction crews and field leadership. This position provides a strong foundation for future advancement into project management or field leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.

• Ability to read and develop an understanding of construction plans, profiles, details, specifications, grades, elevations, and construction quantities.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
• Experience with Bluebeam, AutoCAD/Civil 3D, survey equipment, HeavyJob, CMiC, or scheduling software is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail, communication, initiative, and willingness to work closely with field crews and construction leadership.
• Comfortable working primarily on active construction sites and outdoors in heat, rain, mud, uneven terrain, excavations, and other normal heavy civil construction environments.
• Ability to perform light to moderate physical activity associated with field verification and construction-site access.
• Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between project sites throughout the Greater Houston area as required.

Responsibilities

• Support field execution of underground water, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, large-diameter pipelines, lift stations, pump stations, roadway and paving improvements, shaft construction, tunneling, HDD, and other trenchless construction projects.
• Support the Superintendent and field leadership with daily planning, crew coordination, work sequencing, material needs, subcontractor activities, and identification of field constraints.
• Develop a working knowledge of plans, specifications, contract requirements, details, grades, elevations, alignments, quantities, and construction sequencing.
• Coordinate with surveyors and verify layout information, line and grade, elevations, offsets, control points, and field measurements as assigned.
• Measure and track installed quantities, production rates, labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractor work.
• Provide accurate field information for daily reports, cost tracking, and billing.
• Maintain field documentation including daily reports, photographs, redlines, inspection records, test reports, delivery tickets, truck tickets, material tickets, and other supporting records.
• Review current drawings and revisions with field leadership and help ensure crews are working from the latest approved information.
• Assist with RFIs by identifying field conflicts and gathering dimensions, photographs, sketches, and other information needed for resolution.
• Support material receiving and verification and coordinate deliveries, staging, access, and installation needs with field personnel and suppliers.
• Coordinate with inspectors, testing laboratories, surveyors, subcontractors, suppliers, and project staff regarding daily field activities.
• Assist with 811 locate verification, excavation documentation, traffic-control coordination, shutdowns, tie-ins, confined-space requirements, shaft and tunnel activities, and other field-specific controls as assigned.
• Support quality-control activities by verifying materials, installation requirements, testing, inspections, and documentation against plans and specifications.
• Participate in pre-task planning, toolbox talks, safety meetings, and job hazard analyses while supporting company and OSHA safety requirements.
• Help maintain project redlines and as-built information throughout construction.
• Support punch-list completion, final measurements, as-built verification, demobilization, and project closeout.
• Develop hands-on construction and field leadership skills with opportunities for increased responsibility and advancement over time.
