Field Project Engineer — Traveling, Special Projects

Job summary

NexGen, the self-perform arm of Gray Construction, is seeking a Traveling Project Engineer in Franklin, TN. This entry-level role supports the project lifecycle across safety, cost, scheduling, and procurement, with travel as required.

You will work with a team of professionals in a fast-paced, construction-focused environment, leveraging MS Office and project software. Ideal candidates have a degree in construction-related field or equivalent experience and a strong desire to learn and grow.

Qualifications

• Degree in Construction Science, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, or at least four years of relevant construction experience.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, MS Project, Word, PowerPoint).
• Familiarity with construction software such as Procore, Bluebeam, CMIC, etc.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Analytical mindset and problem-solving abilities.
• Eagerness to learn, improve, and contribute to a team.
• Attention to detail and a strong commitment to safety and quality.
• Ability to adapt to different roles and requirements within the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Assist with project safety compliance efforts.
• Support understanding and distribution of job cost information and project estimates.
• Contribute to project sequencing and scheduling efforts.
• Help track project progress and analyze production.
• Assist in project cost reporting and other administrative duties.
• Support material/equipment procurement processes.
• Help manage change order requests and tracking.
• Coordinate with general contractors/owners under supervision.
• Assist with reporting requirements, including field time, productivity, materials, safety, and other aspects.
• Learn and comply with company standards and industry regulations.
