Job summary

Saiia Construction Company LLC, a MasTec company, is seeking a Project Engineer to support heavy civil construction projects in the field. The role emphasizes field coordination, plan interpretation, and QA/QC across multiple stakeholders.

The engineer will conduct soil sampling, grading checks, and test documentation, while maintaining current drawings and logs. A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering is required; PE preferred. Expect long hours and frequent site work.

Qualifications

• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D or equivalent for drawings and field sketches.
• Knowledge of heavy civil construction methods, earthwork, soil testing, QA/QC concepts.
• Ability to read plans, specs, reports, and codes; interpret technical documentation.
• Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Project proficiency; ability to learn new systems.

Responsibilities

• Support project team from preconstruction through closeout.
• Interpret plans and specifications; coordinate with Project Manager to resolve conflicts.
• Draft, digitize, map, and produce quantity takeoffs; revisions in CAD Civil 3D.
• Provide field engineering support: survey checks, grading validation, as-built records.
• Coordinate soil sampling, testing, and chain-of-custody tracking.
• Review third‑party test reports and identify corrective actions.
• Conduct daily field inspections to verify compliance with codes and drawings.
• Maintain QA/QC documentation and records; track deliverables and changes.
• Communicate project status and issues with customers, subs, and vendors.
• Assist with project setup, budgeting, billing, and change orders.
