Job description

  • Conduct insurance premium audits in the field to determine actual exposures and premiums charged for policy coverages
  • Audit policyholder records and apply rules and company standards
  • Perform field audits for organizational accounts and resolve applicable disputes
  • Conduct timely and accurate premium and service audits examining financial records
  • Manage audits of various sizes and complexity, partnering with a mentor or supervisor on complex accounts
  • Deliver excellent customer service throughout the audit experience
  • Resolve technical issues with reviewers, underwriters, and agents
  • Communicate with customers, agents, and external constituencies throughout audits
  • Communicate audit findings and changes in premium exposures to insureds, agents, and company personnel
  • Clarify voluntary and physical audit status with insureds
  • Consult with NCCI/WCIRB and other independent bureaus on classification and technical issues
  • Present audit inventory status regularly to management
  • Maintain current premium-auditing knowledge through internal and external resources
  • Examine policyholder payroll records and operations
  • Record and summarize payroll and classifications used to determine premiums
  • Analyze insured business operations to determine appropriate classifications and exposures
  • Work from home and in insureds' clerical office areas, with travel to insured locations for audits
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university required with a major or emphasis in Accounting, Business or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 1-2 years of related experience and/or training in premium audit required
  • Current driver's license required
  • Working knowledge of Commercial Lines policies, including Workers' Compensation and General Liability
  • Experience working with WCRIB, NCCI, and other independent bureaus highly desirable
  • Knowledge of payroll and accounting systems
  • Understanding of differences in Workers' Compensation jurisdictions
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals, financial reports, or legal documents
  • Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or business community members
  • Ability to present information to management and public groups
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to work independently with excellent time management skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to lift and carry 25-40 pounds
  • Must be able to drive and work independently
  • Willingness and ability to travel overnight up to 25% of the time
