CNA Financial is seeking a seasoned Premium Audit Specialist to perform remote and hybrid audits across the Property & Casualty Commercial Lines portfolio. You will classify exposures, establish premium bases, and ensure compliance with ISO, NCCI, and Independent Bureaus' policies.

The role requires travel to customer sites, strong analytical and communication skills, and the ability to work independently while meeting deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting or finance; advanced degree or designations preferred.
  • Minimum five years of related work experience.
  • Experience with ISO, NCCI & Independent Bureau States such as the California WCIRB is required.
  • PAAS Certification a plus.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.

This position requires the timely completion of remote/hybrid audits with some business travel within the assigned territory to perform physical audits of Property & Casualty Commercial Lines policies at customers' premises when required. In this role you will establish the appropriate classifications, basis of premium, and premium exposures in accordance with company policy, ISO, NCCI & Independent Bureaus' policies and regulations. Experience with ISO, NCCI & Independent Bureau States such as the California WCIRB is required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary to conduct entrance/exit interviews while conducting audits. Strong organizational, time management and interpersonal skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office and good working knowledge of Excel spreadsheets is a plus.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conducts audits of complex accounts substantiating accuracy of policy classifications, exposure base inclusions/exclusions, status of subcontractors, subcontractor cost allocations, business and final customer relationship and audits the overall business. Develops proper premium basis on risks adhering to strict time deadlines.
  • Conducts interviews with the insured to obtain information regarding the insured's operations and business model to obtain a good working knowledge and analysis of the risk. Determines employee job classifications based on job role and responsibilities and exposure to hazard.
  • Compiles and analyzes client's operations and accounting records for accuracy in preparation of audit, including examining and authenticating classifications related data from business records as well as a visual inspection of the insured's business.
  • Recognizes and communicates regular and irregular audit findings and financial conditions of an insured to the agent and branch underwriting. Informs corporate investigations and underwriting of questionable operations, including suspected fraud.
  • Prioritizes territorial assignment for policy review and audit load.
  • Stays up to date on trends and developments within specialty area as well as the insurance industry.
  • May assist in the performance of operational audits.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Strong understanding of premium auditing practices and principles, with an interest in learning more about the insurance industry and how different departments work together.
  • Familiarity with standard premium auditing procedures, and a willingness to develop knowledge of more complex practices over time.
  • Ability to ask clear questions to insured clients to gather information about their business operations, with support and guidance as needed.
  • Willingness to engage in challenging situations and learn how to identify risks, with mentorship and supervision.
  • Strong knowledge of General Liability, Workers Compensation, and Business Auto Liability, with a commitment to learning state and regulatory guidelines.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks, while seeking help when necessary.
  • Apply analytical and problem-solving skills, with support to resolve more complex issues.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, verbal, and written communication skills, with a focus on building confidence to interact with business partners.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite Tools and strong premium audit system background with a willingness to learn additional business software.
  • Willingness to travel as needed for the role.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in accounting or finance, or equivalent. Advanced degree or professional designations preferred.
  • Experience with ISO, NCCI & Independent Bureau States such as the California WCIRB is required.
  • Typically, a minimum of five years of related work experience.
  • PAAS Certification a plus
