Job summary

Mortenson is offering a Field/Operations Intern position for Summer 2027 in Minneapolis, MN. You will gain hands-on experience on active projects, collaborating with project teams, subcontractors and partners to keep work moving on site.

You’ll help solve real problems, stay organized, and build your professional skills through development opportunities in various disciplines such as Engineering, Operations, and Estimating.

Qualifications

• Pursuing an undergraduate, four-year degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Engineering or related field.
• Willing to relocate to multiple sites as needed during the internship.
• Possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Comfortable with dirt, heat, noise, dust, and a trailer-office environment.

Responsibilities

• Learn from project teams and support on-site execution.
• Complete construction change orders and coordinate with teams.
• Assist with shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs.
• Support purchase orders and subcontractor agreements.
• Participate in project scheduling, preconstruction meetings, and coordination meetings.

As an intern, you’ll get hands-on experience right away, working alongside project teams, subcontractors, and partners to keep things moving on site. You’ll help solve real problems, stay organized, communicate across teams, and make an impact from day one while building the foundation for your career.

Responsibilities

Learn from the best. Potential job functions based on internship type may include:

• Completing construction change orders
• Handling shop drawings, submittals, and the request for information (RFI) processes
• Assisting with purchase orders and subcontractor agreements
• Partnering in construction sequencing and schedule maintenance
• Collaborating with team in preconstruction and pre-installation meetings
• Assisting with subcontractor coordination meetings and correspondence
• Utilizing industry-leading technology and software to assist in construction processes
• Supporting preparation and evaluation of bid packages
• Consulting with subcontractors and material suppliers
• Participating in architect and owner interaction

Project Assignment:

• Currently pursuing an undergraduate, four-year degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Engineering or other related degree
• Are willing to be mobile/relocate

Preferred Qualifications:

• Have previous related internship experience
• Are currently enrolled as an undergraduate junior
• Have a basic understanding of construction and generally accepted business practices
• Demonstrate strong collaboration, communication, and problem‑solving skills and show initiative and leadership
• Showcase a positive and professional attitude and solid customer service skills
• Are detail‑oriented, organized, and can effectively handle multiple competing priorities

The hourly wage for college Interns starts at $18. Students may be paid higher wages based on their year in school.
