Job summary

Mortenson Construction invites motivated students to join its summer intern program in the United States. From May to August 2027, interns work on meaningful projects across Renewable Energy, Commercial, and Data Center sectors, gaining hands-on experience on site and in collaboration with project teams.

You will support the electrical scope, assist with shop drawings, RFIs, procurement, and preconstruction activities, while developing professional skills and contributing to real outcomes.

Qualifications

• Pursuing an undergraduate four-year degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Willing to relocate and have a valid driver's license.
• Able to work in a construction site environment with exposure to dirt, heat, noise and dust.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the electrical scope on Power, Solar, Energy Storage or Data Center projects.
• Help determine best layout of collection system under project constraints.
• Handle shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs; assist with purchase orders and subcontractor agreements.
• Collaborate with project teams in preconstruction and pre-installation meetings.
• Support bid package preparation and material procurement.

As an intern, you'll get hands‑on experience right away, working alongside project teams, subcontractors, and partners to keep things moving on site. You'll help solve real problems, stay organized, communicate across teams, and make an impact from day one while building the foundation for your career.

Responsibilities

Learn from the best. Potential job functions based on internship type may include:

• Assist with the overall electrical scope on one of the following: Power, Solar, Energy Storage or Data Center projects
• Assist with determining best layout of collection system, considering project constraints
• Handling shop drawings, submittals, and the request for information (RFI) processes
• Assisting with purchase orders and subcontractor agreements
• Collaborating with team in preconstruction and pre-installation meetings
• Utilizing industry-leading technology and software to assist in construction processes
• Supporting preparation and evaluation of bid packages
• Consulting with subcontractors and material suppliers
• Handling material procurement

• Currently pursuing an undergraduate, four-year degree in Electrical Engineering
• Are willing to be mobile/relocate
• Possess a current driver's license and have access to reliable transportation
• Are comfortable with exposure to dirt, heat, noise, dust, and a trailer office environment

Preferred Qualifications:

• Have previous related internship experience
• Are currently enrolled as an undergraduate junior
• Have a basic understanding of construction and generally accepted business practices
• Demonstrate strong collaboration, communication, and problem‑solving skills and show initiative and leadership
• Showcase a positive and professional attitude and solid customer service skills
• Are detail‑oriented, organized, and can effectively handle multiple competing priorities

The hourly wage for college Interns starts at $18. Students may be paid higher wages based on their year in school.
