Job summary

The City of Richmond Department of Public Utilities – Field Operations is seeking a Field Operations Coordinator Supervisor to supervise staff in the Field Operations Logistics Center. The selected candidate will be assigned to the 4:00 pm to 12:00 am shift, with duties including scheduling, monitoring workloads, and coordinating with other departments.

Job description

The City of Richmond Department of Public Utilities – Field Operations is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the Field Operations Coordinator Supervisor position. The selected candidate will supervise staff in the Field Operations Logistics Center.

The selected candidate will be assigned to work the 4:00 pm to 12:00 am shift.

  • Scheduling and assigning work assignments to appropriate crews, both on an emergency and non-emergency basis;
  • Monitoring workload, overtime, and performance to ensure proper work order completion;
  • Coordinating with other City departments or outside agencies as necessary to ensure safety and proper use of resources;
  • Disseminating accurate information to internal and external customers;
  • Training new employees, recommending hiring and termination decisions, and conducting performance evaluations;
  • Generating routine reports;
  • Developing policies and procedures for dispatch personnel to ensure proper guidelines are followed

This is an essential position, which requires the selected candidate to report to work for emergency and on-call duty in response to inclement weather/natural disaster.
This position requires working overtime, including weekends, nights and holidays as necessary.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
  • Associates Degree in relevant field such as Logistics or Communications, or training equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college;
  • Four years of experience
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification.
LICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • None required
PREFERRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
  • Previous supervisory experience is preferred
  • Experience working in an emergency communications environment
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Previous experience working in utilities field service/logistics/emergency communications environment is preferred

  • General console and hand held radio knowledge

ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Due to the nature of work assignments, incumbents must be able to perform detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks, with frequent interruptions and under time constraint. While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach extending hands and arms in any direction, stand, push, pull, lift, finger (picking, pinching or otherwise working primarily with fingers), grasp applying pressure to an object with fingers or palms, talk, see, and hear. The employee is frequently required to climb, balance, stoop, crouch, crawl, walk, feel and use substantial repetitive motions of the wrists, hands and fingers. In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties, this classification is considered to be sedentary, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
