Job summary

Independence Excavating is seeking a full-time Land Surveyor to prepare and review data for field crews, approve cut sheets, and produce as-builts for construction projects. The role combines field layout at sites with office analysis, using Trimble GPS equipment and AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Qualified candidates will have a minimum of five years of surveying experience, a high school diploma or equivalent, and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• Minimum HS Diploma. Additional training and/or related certificate preferred.
• Minimum five years of previous related experience.
• Experience with Trimble GPS equipment, Trimble machine control, Trimble total station setup.
• Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Ability to build surfaces for GPS equipment.
• Thorough understanding of surveying practices and equipment use.
• Must have good math skills.
• Must be able to verbally communicate instructions and plans with internal/external contacts.
• Must be able to communicate rationale behind decisions; accuracy essential.
• Field and office position – willingness to work outside in all weather.
• Local travel to job sites required; occasional overtime.

Responsibilities

• Producing and verifying cut sheets.
• Overseeing and coordinating the initial layout at the job site and monitoring it.
• Providing work control lines and elevations for accurate installation.
• Checking as-built conditions using surveying techniques.
• Providing topographic and cross-section surveys for planning and payment quantities.
• Supervising Surveying Technician and Surveying Trainee personnel.
• Interpreting drawings and specifications and applying them to field layouts.
