Job summary

The City of Fairburn is seeking a Meter Reader to read water and other meters, record data, and deliver excellent customer service to residents and businesses. This role operates outdoors on a Monday–Friday schedule, using handheld devices to capture usage and report anomalies.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, a valid Georgia driver's license, and the ability to work in varying weather. Prior utility experience is a plus and strong accuracy is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required or equivalent.
• Valid Georgia driver's license and clean MVR.
• Ability to read maps and navigate using GPS and GIS.

Responsibilities

• Read and record meter readings for assigned routes.
• Identify abnormal usage and report leaks.
• Use AMR to collect data and transfer to billing database.
• Prepare work orders for damaged meters and service disconnections.
• Maintain vehicle and perform safety checks.
