Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) invites qualified candidates to join our Meter Electrician team in the Columbus area. The role covers installing, testing, programming, and maintaining self-contained meters energized up to 240 volts, both in shop and on customer premises.

The position supports overtime, shifts, and a structured training program to qualify for Meter Electrician C/A roles within our service territory. Candidates should have the education and hands-on experience described above.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in electrical/electronic technology or four years' related experience.
• Experience in metering, instrumentation, controls, power systems, and testing.
• State Driver License; able to obtain medical certification if required.

Responsibilities

• Read meters for field orders and cycle billing.
• Install, remove, disconnect, reconnect meters.
• Test single phase, network, and polyphase meters for accuracy.
• Program meters and investigate energy diversion.
• Repair meters, meter sockets, and enclosures.
• Handle inventory and shipment of meters and equipment.
• Perform site work from ladders and elevated platforms.
