Job summary

Pike Electric, Inc. is seeking a Field Mechanic to service heavy on-road/off-road equipment for the utility sector across multiple sites in Texas. The role requires diagnosing engines, hydraulics, and chassis, with travel to customer locations as needed.

You will perform repairs, maintain vehicles and tools, and learn grounding procedures near energized systems, with physical demands including lifting over 50 lbs and outdoor work in varying weather.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience repairing heavy on-road/off-road equipment.
  • Must obtain Class A CDL within 90 days of employment.
  • Must have own basic tools.
  • Willing to travel long distances on short notice.
  • Able to lift more than 50 lbs.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather; weekends/holidays/overtime as required.
  • Knowledge of hydraulics, diesel engines, steering, drive train, HVAC, welding, air/hydraulic brake systems, electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with diagnostics, parts inventory management, work orders, and telematics.
  • Certifications or experiences in ASE, Ford, Cummins, Paccar, Navistar, CAT, John Deere, Kubota, Detroit, Allison; Altec/TerexAerial devices; Fluid Power Certification; 2-year Diesel College Degree.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot/diagnose equipment breakdowns and repair as needed.
  • Learn safe work practices near energized systems and grounding procedures.

  • Perform related duties to meet organizational needs.

Job description

The Field Mechanic position works at various locations. The position requires experience in engine diagnostics, chassis, and hydraulic systems. The position may also require travel to another state depending on customer demands.

Essential Functions
  • Responsible for the repair and maintenance of heavy on road/off road equipment used to service the utility industry.
  • Work safely while performing repairs or maintenance on a job site in various weather conditions.
  • Troubleshoot/diagnose equipment breakdowns in a timely safe manner and repair as needed.
  • Must be able to learn and understand safe work practices for equipment set up and grounding procedures for equipment repairs that may be near energized systems.
  • Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
  • Does all other related work as required to complete the job.
Minimum Requirements
  • Requires 2 years of experience in heavy on road/off road equipment repair.
  • Able to perform rigorous physical labor.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a class A CDL permit/license within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Must have own basic tools required to perform equipment repairs.
  • Must be able to perform work in most if not all the following areas:
  • Hydraulics
  • Diesel/Gas Engines
  • Steering Systems
  • Drive Train
  • HVAC
  • Welding/Metal Fabrication
  • Air/Hydraulic Brake Systems
  • Electrical Systems
  • Must know or be able to learn how to use computers for:
  • Diagnostics
  • Parts Inventory Management
  • Work Orders
  • Telematics
  • Certifications or experiences in any of the following would be a plus:
  • ASE Certifications
  • Ford, Cummins, Paccar, Navistar, CAT, John Deere, Kubota, Detroit, Allison
  • Altec/TerexAerial Devices
  • Fluid Power Certification
  • 2-year Diesel College Degree
  • Able to travel long distances on short notice, when required.
  • Able to work for extended periods in various locations, when required.
  • Able to lift more than 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work outside, frequently in inclement weather
  • Willing to work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required for the position.

The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle and feel; reach with hands and arms.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is performed in outside weather conditions.
