Job summary

ENSTAR Natural Gas Company in Alaska seeks a skilled Meter Technician to install, test, calibrate, program and maintain electronic gas meters and related instrumentation in field and shop settings.

You will recondition meters, manage documentation, and support maintenance projects while upholding safety standards and compliance. A high school diploma and Alaska driving privileges are required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Formal education in electronic instrumentation preferred; equivalent work experience considered.
  • Experience with gas measurement equipment and troubleshooting is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Install, test, calibrate, program, and maintain electronic gas meter devices and regulation equipment.
  • Recondition gas meters and troubleshoot instrumentation in field and shop.
  • Maintain records, parts stock, and field paperwork; support projects and safety procedures.

Job description

What You Will Do
  • Install, test, calibrate, program, and maintain electronic gas meter measurement and control devices to ensure gas flow meters are working properly.
  • Recondition gas meters as necessary.
  • Install and troubleshoot low-voltage DC electrical circuits and instrumentation.
  • Fabricate and install meter set assemblies.
  • Inspect, maintain, repair, adjust, and calibrate measurement and pressure regulation equipment both in the field and in the shop.
  • Prove, repair and rebuild natural gas meters in accordance with AGA and company standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of meter shop activities.
  • Provide and maintain required records and part stock.
  • Document and maintain meter tests and removal tags.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of meters.
  • Document and maintain field records/applicable paperwork.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Support field maintenance activities and construction projects.
  • Other duties include: parts ordering, sandblasting, cleaning, painting, weed cutting, and snow removal.
What You Will Bring
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Formal education in electronic instrumentation/process technology preferred. Equivalent experience in plant operations/maintenance will also be considered.
  • Demonstrated work experience requiring a high degree of technical troubleshooting.
  • Must be able to perform assigned tasks unsupervised and make appropriate decisions.
  • Familiarity with the geographical layout of Southcentral Alaska.
  • Must possess current Alaska Driver's License and be qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the ENSTAR's Driving Policy.
  • Employment is contingent on successful completion of the Operator Qualification Program.
  • Ability to pass a drug, background, past employment, and driving record screening.
Preferred Skills And Qualifications
  • Fundamental knowledge of natural gas measurement and basic gas chemistry.
  • Demonstrated high degree of technical troubleshooting both electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude working with hand and power tools
  • Previous experience or education in electrical system theory and a working knowledge of the National Electric Code.
  • Ability to install, test, calibrate, program and maintain electronic measurement and control devices.
  • Ability to inspect, maintain, repair, and adjust pressure regulation equipment both in the field and in the shop.
  • Ability to establish and maintain field records, meter records, and paperwork.
  • Knowledge of pipeline operations and maintenance activities.
  • Experience and ability to work on systems operating at 1,000 PSIG or more.
  • Knowledge of gas metering technologies.
  • Knowledge of natural gas utility construction projects and practices.
  • Thorough knowledge/ability to learn ENSTAR's Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate detailed information accurately and clearly.
  • Strong math and science skills.
