Position Summary

The Field Measurement Technician is a hands-on technical role that combines commercial glazing, field operations, and CAD processing. This position is responsible for capturing precise as-built conditions at active construction sites and converting measurements into accurate, reviewable information used by Project Management, CAD/detailing, fabrication, purchasing, and field teams.

The role combines the Leica iCON iCS50 robotic 3D measurement system and iCON trades software with traditional measurement verification, field documentation, and CAD processing. The ideal candidate enjoys working in both field and office environments, solving technical problems, and ensuring accurate measurements translate into successful fabrication and installation.

Direct Leica iCS50/iCON trades experience is a plus, but not required. Training is available for candidates with strong transferable measurement and CAD skills.

What You’ll Do
  • Measure commercial glazing and architectural aluminum conditions on active construction sites, including openings and other dimensions required for accurate fabrication and installation.
  • Operate the Leica iCON iCS50 and iCON trades software to capture dimensions, geometry, elevations, angles, plumb conditions, openings, and other relevant field conditions.
  • Establish reliable reference points; verify iCS50 setup and relocation; respond to movement alerts; and recognize conditions that may compromise accuracy, including obstructions, congestion, incomplete substrates, and access limitations.
  • Use direct laser, available compatible Leica accessories, manual verification, photographs, and field documentation as appropriate to confirm measurements and explain site conditions.
  • Transfer, organize, and export iCON trades field data into CAD-compatible files (DXF/DWG), drawings, measurement reports, and 2D or, where applicable, 3D geometry.
  • Use CAD software to process measurement data, prepare or update drawings, and communicate verified field conditions to internal teams.
  • Identify out-of-square, out-of-plumb, obstructed, incomplete, or drawing-inconsistent conditions that require review before glass, aluminum, or other materials are released.
  • Coordinate with Project Management, CAD/detailing, Production, and Field Operations to resolve questions, communicate field conditions, and revisit sites when verification is required.
  • Reconcile field conditions with approved drawings, shop drawings, project requirements, and established glazing clearances before information is relied upon for fabrication or material ordering.
  • Maintain organized project files and keep the iCS50, tablet, accessories, batteries, reference tools, and related technology properly transported, protected, stored, and in good working condition.
  • Build proficiency through Leica iCS50/iCON trades, CAD workflow, commercial glazing systems, and AJ Glass process training.
  • Develop cross-training and documentation so the measurement and data-processing workflow has reliable backup coverage.
  • Help improve measurement accuracy while reducing unnecessary site visits, manual redrawing, duplicate data entry, and field-to-office handoff time.
  • Follow AJ Glass and project-site safety requirements and perform other related duties consistent with the role, training, and operational needs of the business.
What We’re Looking For
  • Exceptional attention to detail, a strong commitment to accuracy, and sound problem-solving skills, including the judgment to stop and verify conditions when information is incomplete or inconsistent.
  • Proficiency in CAD software, such as AutoCAD, BricsCAD, or a similar drafting platform, with the ability to interpret architectural drawings, shop drawings, plans, elevations, details, and construction documents.
  • Strong spatial reasoning and the ability to understand dimensions, geometry, elevations, angles, tolerances, and the relationship between field conditions and fabricated components.
  • Strong technical aptitude and the ability to learn measurement technology, software, and project workflows.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate with Project Management, CAD/detailing, Production, Field Operations, and other teams.
  • Ability to work independently in both field and office environments, manage field assignments, and travel to project sites.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • Experience in commercial glazing or architectural aluminum, including storefront, curtain wall, entrances, glass fabrication, or similar systems.
  • Field measurement experience involving glass, aluminum, architectural products, millwork, countertops, stone, or other precision-fabricated building components.
  • CAD drafting or detailing experience in construction, architecture, engineering, fabrication, or manufacturing.
  • Experience with Leica iCON systems, robotic total stations, laser measurement systems, construction layout technology, surveying equipment, or similar precision-measurement tools.
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam, Procore, Microsoft Office, or similar construction and document-management software.
Physical Requirements

This position regularly works in both the AJ Glass office and active commercial construction environments. The employee must be able to:

  • Walk active construction sites, use stairs, navigate uneven or unfinished surfaces, and stand for extended periods.
  • Carry and safely position precision measurement equipment and perform the bending, reaching, and other movement required for field measurement.
  • Work around construction-site noise, dust, temperature changes, weather conditions, and active trades.
  • Use required personal protective equipment and comply with project-specific safety requirements.

This is a full-time, field- and office-based position based in Marietta, GA, working Monday through Friday with regular travel to commercial project sites throughout metro Atlanta and surrounding markets. Workdays may begin as early as 5:00 AM based on project schedules and site access; when not in the field, this position works from the AJ Glass office in Marietta.
