Job summary

Timmons Group is seeking a Construction Materials Testing Engineering Technician to join our Geotechnical and Construction Services team in Richmond, VA. This entry-level role supports field testing of soil, asphalt and concrete, collects data, and prepares detailed field reports to help inform project decisions.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED, 1+ year of related experience or training, and are willing to learn field and lab testing protocols.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1+ year of related experience or training preferred.
• ACI certification for concrete is a plus, not required.
• VDOT certifications for soils, concrete, asphalt a plus, not required.
• Must have training on field and laboratory testing equipment and data reporting.

Responsibilities

• Perform field testing of soil, asphalt and concrete under supervision.
• Prepare detailed field reports with test results, observations and recommendations.
• Review project plans and specs to understand requirements.
• Perform basic laboratory tests on soil and concrete and report results.
• Maintain testing equipment in good condition and ensure calibration when needed.
• Maintain and update certifications as directed by senior staff.
• Assist senior staff with geotechnical investigations.
• Evaluate site conditions and provide field-based recommendations.
