Job summary

Atlas is seeking a CMT Field Technician to perform advanced field and laboratory testing for Hot Mix Asphalt, concrete, soils and aggregates, ensuring compliance with project specifications. Requires 2+ years in construction and ability to work independently across local/state offices.

Applicants should have TxAPA and ACI certifications, read plans and specs well, and be willing to travel up to 50% with day/night shifts.

Qualifications

• 2+ years in construction focusing on HMA, concrete, soils, and aggregates.
• Ability to read and comprehend plans, specs, and test procedures.
• Knowledge of concrete, soils, base, and asphalt pavements.
• Experience in highway or building construction; works with contractors/owners.
• Valid driver’s license.
• TxAPA Level 1A/1B/SB102 and ACI Field Grade 1 required.
• Proficient with Word/Excel and testing tools.
• Willing to travel up to 50% of the time.
• Willing to work day or night shifts; off hours when needed.
• Flexible to switch between field, inspection, and lab testing.
• Available to work up to 60 hours/week.

Responsibilities

• Conduct material testing for HMA, concrete, soils, and aggregates in field, lab, or plant.
• Ensure compliance with TxDOT and City of Austin specs; support QC and production oversight.
• Perform daily QC/QA sampling and testing per project specs.
• Provide technical support to roadway personnel; address testing inquiries.
• Maintain and calibrate lab equipment; document test results.
• Escalate complex issues to project managers with clear information.
• Collaborate with team to identify patterns and drive process improvements.
• Adhere to safety policies and procedures.
• Participate in ongoing training and stay updated on procedures.
