Job summary

American Water is seeking a Field Maintenance Technician in Woodridge, Illinois. The role involves performing J.U.L.I.E. locates, hydrant and valve inspections, meter reading, and customer service duties on a daily basis. Work hours are Monday through Friday with a daytime shift.

The position requires a Class A CDL with air brake endorsement or the ability to obtain one, strong mathematical skills, and the ability to read and install meters. Competitive benefits are offered.

Field Maintenance Technician in Woodridge, Illinois

Posted Range:

$33.50/hour

This position may be eligible for annual incentive pay and contracted increases as determined by the collective bargaining agreement, and you will have the opportunity for continued salary growth.

Perform J.U.L.I.E. locates. Perform b-box andvalveinspections and maintenance/exercising, fire hydrant flushing inspections, leak detection, reads, tests,and/orinstalls water meters when needed and performs customer service functions when needed. Work with utilitycrewsand customers performing various water and sewer utility repairs, maintenance, installs, and a high levelofcustomer service/awareness. This includes working on main breaks, sanitary sewer backups, and jet flushingsewers.Willingness to perform any and all job related functions when needed. Maintain and keep equipment inproper and safeoperating condition. Complete required paperwork and investigations. Information must beaccurate, complete, detailed,and on time. Works with teams or alone to complete assigned projects on time.Operate various heavy equipment andvehicles such as dump trucks, water pumps, jackhammers, sewer jetcleaning, vacuum, equipment, tv equipment, etc.Effectively operate various equipment such as line locators,metal locators, pressure gauges, sawz all, augers, b-boxkeys, and valve insertion machines.

Hours/Shift

• Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Knowledge/Skills

• Knowledge of, and ability to use, basic computer/field laptops and programs.
• Knowledge of sewer repair, rehab, replacement and maintenance preferred.

Experience/Education

• The ability to perform mathematical calculations related to the job with accuracy, and the ability to communicate effectively with external and internal customers.
• Class A CDL with an air break endorsement or the ability to obtain.
• Ability to read, install and test water meters.
• Ability to walk routes and use meter reading equipment.
• Ability to effectively operate, adjust and repair b-box, hydrants and value boxes.

Other

• Ability to physically perform manual labor including working overtime when required.
