Job summary

American Water is seeking a Field Maintenance Technician in Woodridge, Illinois. The role involves locating utilities, inspecting and maintaining b-boxes and hydrants, and performing water meter reads and installations as needed.

A CDL with air brake endorsement is required or must be obtainable. The position offers comprehensive benefits and opportunities for wage growth under the collective bargaining agreement, with a schedule Monday–Friday 6:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m.

Responsibilities

• Perform J.U.L.I.E. locates and valve inspections; maintain/exercise b-boxes and hydrants.

• Work with utility crews on water/sewer repairs and projects, ensuring safety and quality.
• Operate heavy equipment and meters; complete required paperwork accurately and on time.

Field Maintenance Technician in Woodridge, Illinois

Posted Range:

$33.50/hour

This position may be eligible for annual incentive pay and contracted increases as determined by the collective bargaining agreement, and you will have the opportunity for continued salary growth.

Perform J.U.L.I.E. locates. Perform b-box and valve inspections and maintenance/exercising, fire hydrant flushing inspections, leak detection, reads, tests, and/or installs water meters when needed and performs customer service functions when needed. Work with utility crews and customers performing various water and sewer utility repairs, maintenance, installs, and a high level of customer service/awareness. This includes working on main breaks, sanitary sewer backups, and jet flushing sewers. Willingness to perform any and all job related functions when needed. Maintain and keep equipment in proper and safe operating condition. Complete required paperwork and investigations. Information must be accurate, complete, detailed, and on time. Works with teams or alone to complete assigned projects on time. Operate various heavy equipment and vehicles such as dump trucks, water pumps, jackhammers, sewer jet cleaning, vacuum, equipment, tv equipment, etc. Effectively operate various equipment such as line locators, metal locators, pressure gauges, sawz all, augers, b-boxkeys, and valve insertion machines.

Hours/Shift

• Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Knowledge/Skills

• Knowledge of, and ability to use, basic computer/field laptops and programs.
• Knowledge of sewer repair, rehab, replacement and maintenance preferred.

Experience/Education

• The ability to perform mathematical calculations related to the job with accuracy, and the ability to communicate effectively with external and internal customers.
• Class A CDL with an air break endorsement or the ability to obtain.
• Ability to read, install and test water meters.
• Ability to walk routes and use meter reading equipment.
• Ability to effectively operate, adjust and repair b-box, hydrants and value boxes.

• Ability to physically perform manual labor including working overtime when required.
