Job summary

Smith+Nephew is seeking an on-site Field Logistics Specialist in the Detroit area to support district sales activities. The role focuses on product delivery, restocking, inventory maintenance, and pre/post-surgery instrument handling.

Strong customer service to hospital staff is required, along with professional representation of the company. The position requires a high school diploma with 4+ years of related experience in logistics or distribution, and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting logistics, distribution, inventory management, supply chain, customer service, or warehouse operations.
  • Experience coordinating multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, schedules, and prioritizes upcoming surgery procedures and assigns local pickups and deliveries.
  • Ensures paperwork for shipments is processed.
  • Maintains knowledge of products to support in-field delivery and pickups; identifies errors to reduce redundancy.
  • Communicates professionally with office staff, sales reps, and hospital staff; handles customer complaints as directed.
  • Dresses professionally as a company representative and supports OSC, office, and sales duties as needed.
  • Collaborates with OSC staff and Inventory Specialist to optimize delivery options based on time, cost, and vehicle availability.
  • Routes shipments via appropriate methods and confirms delivery updates.
  • Maintains cell phone availability for timely communication on pickups and deliveries; overtime may be required.

Job description

The Field Logistics Specialist is an on-site member of the Logistics Team in a District Sales Office. This person will provide logistical support to the Sales Reps as well as excellent customer service to the hospital staff that will differentiate Smith & Nephew from their competitors. The Field Logistics Specialist will focus on product delivery, re-stocking and maintaining inventory levels, and re-setting instruments pre-and post-surgery. Will acquire a good working knowledge of company products, operating systems and procedures is critical.

What will you be doing?
  • Plans, schedules, and prioritizes upcoming surgery procedures that will be needed form the district office. Assign local pickups and deliveries with respect to time-sensitivity of each and distances to be traveled to mobile field logistics personnel.
  • Assures necessary paperwork is processed for shipments handled.
  • Develop and maintain working knowledge of existing products and new product introductions (instruments and implants) to effectively function in the field regarding proper delivery and pickups. Ability to proactively identify errors and omissions in deliveries/ pickups to eliminate redundancy in required stops.
  • Communicates effectively and professionally with Office Staff, Sales Representatives and all third-party end-users, including but not limited to Hospital Receiving, Central Processing, and Operating Room Staff. Fields customer complaints and communicates them as necessary to OSC staff.
  • Dress in a professional manner as a representative of the company, this may entail wearing Smith and Nephew logoed apparel at the discretion of supervising manager
  • When not directly engaged in courier responsibilities assist in Office, Sales and OSC duties as required.
  • Works with the District OSC staff and Inventory Specialist in analyzing and deciding the best options for local delivery based on time, cost, and vehicle availability, with respect to multiple locations and extremely time-sensitive shipments.
  • Routes shipments via the most appropriate method and confirms updated delivery
  • Carries cellular phone on person at all times in order to communicate effectively regarding pickups and deliveries. Overtime / call will be required to accommodate emergency situations and facilitate changing surgical schedules.
What will you need to be successful?
Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent and at least 4 years of relevant experience in operations, distribution, logistics, inventory management, customer service, or a related field.
Experience
  • Experience supporting logistics, distribution, inventory management, supply chain, customer service, or warehouse operations.
  • Experience coordinating multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with inventory control processes and inventory accuracy initiatives preferred
Physical
  • Must be able to lift 75 lbs; standing, walking, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling for long periods
Other
  • Valid Driver's License with clean record
