Job summary

Benchmark seeks a Lead Locate Technician in Charlottesville, VA to support field operations with expert mapping, data interpretation, and team mentorship. You’ll mentor Locate Technicians, ensure safety, and maintain high-quality service while coordinating with supervisors and clients.

Ideal candidates have 2-3 years in utility locating, strong maps/bluprints reading, and the ability to work outdoors in varying conditions. Salary ranges from $24 to $28 per hour, full-time and on-site.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Strong knowledge of underground utility systems and locating equipment.
• Proficient reading maps, blueprints, and using field technology.
• Experience with ticket management systems and GIS tools is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead by example, mentoring Locate Technicians to improve performance.
• Mentor team, enforce safety protocols, and ensure service quality.
• Coordinate scheduling, queue monitoring, and workload balancing.
• Communicate with excavation crews, clients, and internal teams.
• Identify process improvements and support field operations.
