Job summary

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Temporary Assistant Project Paleontologist to support a Wyoming project, based out of Denver or Sheridan. The role involves field leadership, monitoring, fossil recovery, and data collection across the western United States.

The ideal candidate has 2+ years of Wyoming mitigation experience and 4+ years of professional paleontological mitigation experience, with preference for those qualified as a Wyoming Field Agent. Travel and field days are extensive.

Qualifications

• Requires Wyoming Paleontological Resource Use Permit Field Agent qualification.
• Minimum four years of professional paleontological consulting experience.
• Two years of paleontological mitigation experience in Wyoming.
• Experience leading field crews and construction monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Oversee paleontological monitoring, surveys, fossil recovery, and data collection.
• Plan and coordinate field efforts, staffing, equipment, logistics, and daily work assignments.
• Ensure data accuracy, quality control, and completion of field documentation and deliverables.
• Prepare or contribute to technical reports, impact assessments, and management recommendations.
• Track project schedules and budgets to support project execution.
• Mentor and direct field, laboratory, and junior staff.
• Communicate with project managers, clients, agencies, and field teams.
• Uphold SWCA safety requirements and scientific standards.
