Job summary

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Temporary Assistant Project Paleontologist to support a western US mitigation project based out of Denver or Sheridan. The role emphasizes field leadership, monitoring, fossil recovery, and data collection across multiple sites, with travel and long field days anticipated.

The candidate should have 4+ years of professional paleontological experience and 2+ years in Wyoming mitigation, with a preference for those who qualify as a Wyoming Field Agent

Qualifications

• Must qualify as a Wyoming Paleontological Resource Use Permit Field Agent.
• 4+ years of professional paleontological consulting experience.
• 2+ years of paleontological mitigation experience in Wyoming.
• Experience leading field crews and monitoring construction projects.

Responsibilities

• Serve as lead paleontology professional on field projects and act as Field Agent/PI as applicable.
• Supervise and conduct monitoring, surveys, fossil recovery, and data collection.
• Plan and coordinate field efforts including staffing, equipment, and logistics.
• Ensure data accuracy, quality control, and field documentation deliverables.
• Prepare or contribute to paleontological mitigation reports for regulatory agencies.
• Track schedules and budgets to support project execution.
• Mentor field, laboratory, and junior staff.
